So, is this knife orig? Have been reading about fakes. And this one seems brand new.
Great action, super strong 1/2 stops / both blades.
Much better than any of my other slip joints..

Re: Odd W.R. CASE & SONS hunter/ fixed blade.
Got the latest 4 knives today. Better than expected. And the odd fixed is still a mystery to me.
Orig. model # etc. Handle material is very similar to the Kinfolks, Cattaraugus & Case throwing knife.

Re: 20-40 folder
Mine seems similar, no number stamped on mine. Good looking knife you have there. Beautiful condition. Joe, the 2 knives look to be the same model in stag. What do you call that one? Model wise. The 02 pattern looked close to me. So 5202 1/2 is my best guess. The seller called it a "bare head ...

Re: Odd W.R. CASE & SONS hunter/ fixed blade.
Your KA-BAR 662-5 is a nice knife! Blade has been sharpened down somewhat, should be wider but still a beautiful knife. Regarding tang stamp or in this case ricasso stamp charts I have never seen an accurate one. This one is missing one of the prevalent Case fixed blade marks and not all dates are ...

Re: Odd W.R. CASE & SONS hunter/ fixed blade.
I agree that it has been re-handled and the guard is not original. Only value is as a user, not really any collector value left. 0dd looking knife but kinda cool looking too. Blade is post 1922, can't use Case pocket knife tang charts for Case fixed blades. Is this fixed blade chart accurate? Am ne...

Re: Odd W.R. CASE & SONS hunter/ fixed blade.
If it was re-handled, who would pick that material? ::td:: It should be here late next week. ::tu:: If I find out for sure it was re-done. Will probably re-do it again. Fun project either way. It has been re-handled and the person that had that material would pick it to make the knife serviceable a...

Odd W.R. CASE & SONS hunter/ fixed blade.
Here is one I need some help with. Not mine, but available to me. Thought it was re-handled. But the handle material kind of looks like what was used on the Kinfolks/CASE throwing knives? Just noticed that, and wanted to ask. What is this thing? Does it have any real collectable value? Aside from be...

This was also avail. But seemed to be re-handled. Odd, and not worth too much at all.

Re: 20-40 folder
Thanks for the info. Also thought I read early knives did not all have pattern numbers. 'But was not sure. Stag looks good. Has pinned shield. But no idea if stag was an option at that time. Knife seems orig / ish. These are also being shipped with the folder. Was shooting to collect 65-70. But, a f...

Re: Case XX BULLDOG 5172 / user in the mail.
Case is unable to help with the shield on the Bulldog.
Also asked about an older / old Small Stockman not opening all the way. No dice on either.
So will look for a pinned shield on my own.................

Thanks, I sent in the online repair request form with photos, to see if it can be done at Case. If they only do glue on these days I will pass. And wait to find the orig. pinned style shield. ::tu:: The knife came in today. Better cond than expected. Mineral oil on the stag and a bit of light cleani...

Thanks Mike. Will have the knife in a few days. Have a new bottle I use on my Randall stag and Ivory.
You are right. It looks dry as a bone............
Does anyone here know where I can find the correct missing Case badge?
Thanks!

Re: Case XX BULLDOG 5172 / user in the mail.
Asking about the year, as the Case XX USA stamp looks like 65-69, per the chart.
But also read 65 and earlier had 5172 on the back side of the blade.
Just curious on the year. Guessing 65-69 based on the show side stamp.

Case XX BULLDOG 5172 / user in the mail.
Just bought this today. Was advertised as a 65-69. But am not 100% sure.
Also, is it easy to find / replace the missing shield? Folks here have them FS?
Didn't pay top dollar, so am happy with the purchase.
Looks to have a nice full blade, no big cracks on the scales etc. .
Thanks
