Rehandle and repair of a Case 2138LSS sodbuster

Post by gsmith7158 »

I have a couple of older Sodbuster liner locks that I would like to have combined rehandled, and made into one knife for EDC. I love the sodbuster pattern but would love to have an unusually handsome one for EDC. If any of our knife mechanics here on AAPK have the time or inclination to accept this project please pm me and we'll talk specifics. Time is not of the essence. Thanks in advance for any responses!

I' e got an update on this thread . I have chosen amber smooth camel bone for the rehandle on this 1970 Sodbuster LSS and the knife and materials have been shipped to the artist. More updates will follow.

Hey fellas! Surgery has begun! I'll post pics along the way but the final reveal I will leave to Greg. I can't wait to see how this knife turns out ::tu:: So Here are the first few pics. Knives aint pretty when you first take em' apart.

Now the hard part starts. I need to thin the camel bone down and cut and shape the scales. Later I'll try to post pics of this as well. Stand by!

Here's an update! I was going to take the day off due to lower back spasms this morning... :? But after watching local driver Kyle Larson win at Fontana today (he won yesterday's Xfinity race as well) I found that I felt much better :D So I worked the scales a bit as the pics will show. Now I have to say that I have never worked Giraffe bone before. Thats some oily bone. You could see the oil come out of it as you worked it!

That's beautiful Giraffe bone Greg! Its almost to final size now. I need to go the hardware store tomorrow and pick up some supplies. Then I can start to finish the sodbuster. I can't wait to see how this one is going to look. I need to attach the scales and drill holes for the pins, assemble and finish. I will update with more pics after the scales are attached.

All glued up and waiting to dry. Next step is drill holes and some more sanding, Then I'll do a mock up to make sure everything is ready to go! I'll post the mock up tomorrow. So far so good ::tu:: Keep your fingers crossed! Stay tuned. Same bat channel.... Same bat time, maybe.... :D

Glad your enjoying this Will! Well here are some more pics of the work so far! The more I work that Giraffe bone the prettier it gets! I wanted Greg to get an idea about how this will look so I held it all together with my fingers to snap a couple of pics.

The pins are made. The blade pivot pin I had to make as well as the brass "washers". "Butt" and "rocker" pins are ready. Next step is to drill the pin holes. I don't want to mess that up! Having a few muscle spasms today so I will pick up tomorrow where I left off. Take a good look at those scales and see how they shine! And that's only from the shaping! Wait until I actually start to polish this bad boy!

Greg, I just showed #goldpan's pictures to Miss Joy, she said, "Wow, that pretty!" So y'all can proceed with the project since you have an old woman's approval ::paranoid:: , well she is an old woman, she older than me and I'm old ::nod:: .

Phillip I am proud to have that approval rating. This is really spiffing that old work knife up.
