Aurum Etchings were a company that engraved knives and guns from 1974 to 1991 and have only just re-opened but as a smaller business.
They were at their peak in the 70s. Samuel R Shortes was the founder and President and Revolutionised a process of engraving with acid. The black parts were removed by acid and then covered with black crome.
The majority of their money was made doing firearms. Samuel Shortes used fly to the White House and give examples of his work to Ronald Reagon. There are others who now try and copy this sort of process but
Aurum were the first and greatest, it is still quite easy to tell there work apart as it was better, they used skilled artists and had high quality control. Samuel Shortes himself did this set back in 1975. Here is a Link with some more info. Click
