Blade doesn't extend fully

Post by CpfBeefheart »

Ok, so i got myself a near mint (on the outside at least) spring loaded knife.
Problem is the blade doesn't extend fully into a locked open position.
So far i've used some wd40, but it doesn't help.
Any tips? EDIT: I think the problem could be that the knife fully extends, but when pushing down the lever, the blade deploy, fully extend and then "jumps" back faster then i can release the lever and get the pin to lock it. I hope someone understands what i'm talking about here :)

::welcome:: to AAPK, Cpf! I have had old Shrades do the same thing and I'm not sure there's a fix for this. Maybe the spring will soften over use. But if it's already working too fast, lubricants will just make it worse. Can the blade be tightened slightly? It looks like it will take an Allen Wrench from your pictures.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Thanks for the welcome!
Yes, that would absolutely explain why the wd40 kinda made it worse  At least the spring is good!
I will try to tighten the screws a bit and see what happens.

Your knife is a clone of the AGA Campolin "Zero" model, Cpf, and I know this cuz I bought one. As soon as I received mine I fired it and one of the little tips that hold the lever in position snapped off. I thought it was inoperable so I examined the problem and figured I could fix it, and did. What I'm saying is, being a clone it's not made to the same standard as an original hence these problems. The advise John/Red Rider gave you is likely the best it's gonna get, but there's one other thing you can try. A member and renowned knifemaker/designer, Bill De Shivs, has stated many times, "If the hold the knife in your hand FIRMLY it will always fire and lock-up", give it a try! ::shrug::
