Some of these old time shields could teach the current makers a thing or three.

This 2 1/2" ivory congress has one you don't see too often. It's a standard bar shield but it's made from abalone.

Not my knife. I saw this Hammer Brand on eBay thought the shield was rather unique. Apologies if a shield like this has already been posted, but I'm too lazy to look through all 22 previous pages of knife shields.

Here's knife I picked up recently with a shield that's a bit different. A wide-bottomed variation of a bomb shield? ::shrug::

Here are two more for this thread. The first is a whittler marked Spring Sheffield. The shield design isn't all that unusual, however the size is. This is the largest shield I've seen in proportion to the size of the scale. It begs the question, why is the shield so freaking big? ::hmm:: The second is a Caldwell Cutlery Co. fish jack. This knife has a shield that I haven't seen before. I like this one a lot. :)

Stole this picture from an eBay auction Mike Sexton had up. I think the shield is really neat.

Here are some pics from an active internet auction for a Henry Sears four bladed surveyor pattern double-ended jack.

Quite a great pattern and I think the large shield is worthy of this thread.
