This smallish Battle Axe melon whittler just came in the mail. The pattern intrigues me somehow, and this one (at 3 5/8") is almost a half inch shorter than the Great Eastern 89 pattern. Here's some pic's using the tried and true, but boring, box inside the house method.

Great pictures and great knives. Tim and I are kicked by the same mule because I too am a sucker for whittlers.
How did you achieve the solid black background? Black is my favorite background but most times it ends up "washing out" and isn't solid black like yours.

JR, I don't think I'm drawn to any particular series.
Inclined to take it more on a knife by knife basis.
In today's multi-billion dollar cutlery industry I doubt
many consider 1 of 3000 as truly 'Limited'.
Rustle, nothing wrong in my book with 'tried & true'.
Pic 2&3 are colorful, eye catching and show a lot
of creativity.

I expose for the shiny blade plus just a little more but still less than the overall scene would want. Most of the time it works out, the rest of the time PaintShop can adjust the contrast to make the black darker.
Those reflection shots are fun, sometimes the reflection shows different colors in the pearl or more contrast in the jigging or shield stamp. Like seeing the knife from two angles at the same time.

Very nice pics, Rustle.

..I really like the black background.
I doubt
many consider 1 of 3000 as truly 'Limited'.
I agree........and like you, I do not collect one particular brand or pattern.
I just wanted to know what your opinion was on the knives in the series...since I only own the one ..and rarely buy newer Case knives...with the exception of the "Back Pocket".
With Case having such a bad rap with their products during the 80's - 90's ...I'm happy to see an increase in quality, fit & finish for them.

Fixed blades are not usually my thing, but my step-son lent me these to take pics of. The multiple swedges and the interesting handles are really fun. Actually, the black micarta handle is very comfortable to hold.

My son is a big fan of the Hibben annual fanatsy knives and has several. I have the Kenpo Karate the Kenpo Karate II and the Pro Guide Hunter. Heavy duty knives and very sharp.
That Kenpo Karate II is a real handfull. 12-1/4" long with a 6-7/8" blade that's 1-7/8" at it's widest.

Wow, great looking fixed blades guys! I've got nothing to compare to those, but here is a shot I just took of my 2004 Buck 301. Turning out to be a great knife, made to be put to work. I find the sheepsfoot blade especially useful.
