Simonds Mfg. Co. was and still is a saw manufacturer. Began in 1832, Abel Simonds formed a scythe making business in Fitchburg, MA (See photo circa 1850 of the Simonds scythe makers). In 1868 the company incorporates as the Simonds Manufacturing Company and a new factory is built (Shown in the second picture). In 1878 the company begins manufacturing saws and by 1887 they have 200 employees. In 1922 the name is changed to Simonds Saw and Steel Company and by 1923 they have 2,200 employees. They stopped manufacturing handsaws in 1926. The still exist today as the Simonds Industries Inc.

Therefore, this knife dates from sometime between roughly 1878-1922. I would guess between 1900-1922. All blades are marked.

For more information on the company, http://sawnutz.galootcentral.com/simonds/

Neat knife with a great shield and enjoyed the history link.

Everyone on AAPK is familiar with the below Shield: "E. C. Simmons / Keen Kutter"
The "Fancy Carver" below is 10 3/4" long with a Brass Keen Kutter Logo accompanied with Pewter inlay Fancy Bolsters.
Shapleigh Hardware adapted the DIAMOND EDGE as their brand name for a line of superior tools and cutlery in 1864. "KEEN KUTTER" was the name chosen by E.C. Simmons in 1870 for their high grade tools and cutlery.
The famous wedge and bar logo below was adapted after 1904.

To my knowledge this is the only shield made of a real cartridge: .17. The cartridge of course was inert. This was made by Camillus for Hornady.

I posted this knife earlier in the Quality Chinese section, but the shield is very unique and thought I would share it here also.
Every time I look at the shield it screams to me: "Oh I'm a Long Tall Texan, and I'm for Justice For The Law" (That would make a good song)

Our Daughter teaches English at a University in Zhanjiang China. When she came home to visit last spring she gifted me with this Columbia Jinlang Co. folder.
She has been contributing to my addiction with some beautiful R/Rs over the past few years. I would like a Ganzo but I do not want to mention it to her.
TSA and LAX International Airport in California does not get along with knives, even for non-carry-on luggage.
She has been lucky. I keep telling her nothing sharper than her elbow in her luggage.
I can imagine the look on the TSA agents face when he/she pushes the little button on a Ganzo G707 Auto. ::paranoid::
