Astounding array of quality shields, k7k, you always come with the good stuff. ::tu::

High Carbon Steel bomb shield.
Aren't these two considered "propeller shields"? If they are bomb shields then I've been sideways on the definition of "bomb shield" (and "propeller shield" as well, apparently) the whole time! ::hmm::

That faux stag looks a lot like the handles on a Camillus 4-line serpentine jack I have, albeit much more intact.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the kind words. I have heard them referred to as both propeller and bomb shields;I guess they resemble a prop more than an exploding bomb.I believe the Dunlap was made by Camillus.

Ironic, my favorite one is the only one that is technically "unofficial". ::smirk:: Nicest shield and just a nice knife overall. ::tu::

P.S. ::welcome:: to AAPK and thanks for sharing your new pickups! You'll find a lot of friendly and whipsmart folks with all sorts of knife knowledge in these here forums. ::nod::

Here's another after Beechtree's post on Simonds Mfg Co... No doubt one of my favorite shields ::tu::

This is Simonds Saw & Steel Co (circa - 1922-1940) though the company still makes saws today and are located in Fitchburg MA. This Pen knife at 3 1/2" has a double etch on master blade - both mark and pile sides - but no tang stamps which I assume was in lieu of the mark side etch with company name. The mark side etch is quite clear but the "Saws" part of the pile side etch reading Saws, Files and Hack Saws has some tarnish in that area. Handle covers are faux stag or jigged bone of black composition - not one of my favorites handles but this one shows no sign of shrinkage to date. I understand some of their knives were made by Camillus. Thanks for looking!!

This is an odd shield. I don't know what you would call it. Knife is a very old pre 1900 Maher & Grosh 3 backspring teardrop jack.

Lee it is in pretty good shape, a couple of scuffs and abit of spotting on the blade but the ebony handles, the snap and lock up are superb. I'm very well satisfied with it.

I don't know Steve. That sounds appropriate though judging from the bottom half of the shield. :D
