Just received my 2010 Utica Cutlery Co. Barlow #24779BB made in USA in upstate New York. Closed length is 3 3/8 inches. It has 'Catskill' brown genuine jigged bone handles made from American cattle shin bone. Yay!

Great to see Utica is still making knives in the same factory it started in way back when. The knife is well made and the bone is very pretty. I have some minor issues such as the nail nick is difficult to get to and the blades open and close with no walk and talk. Still glad to see Utica trying to put out an old world product again.

Oh, $36 delivered!

Thanks Froggyedge.

Too bad it looks better than it is made. After handling a million folders in my life (well not that many :D ) I must say that other than the nice bone I am not impressed with the fit and finish of this knife at all. I guess you get what you pay for sometimes.

Quality was sacrificed to get this knife to me for $36 when we consider the cost of parts, American labor, packaging, advertising, shipping to the dealer then shipping to me, dealer mark-up etc. A GEC Barlow would retail for $60 to $70 and though the quality between the two knives is not quite night and day it certainly is like day and early evening ::shrug::

I have Rough Rider Chinese Barlows that I paid $10 for that are put together just as good as this knife, except for the Bone on the Utica which impresses me. Of course the Chinese knife makers are paid pennies and their government probably subsides their product.

That's my 2 cents.

Shame that Utica isn't as good as it looks!

I'll get to check out that John Primble in person late this month!

Well let's understand that this is just my opinion. I am a little fussy. It is super sharp out of the box and the bone is amazing. The fit is ok even though I see a little light when I hold the open knife up to a light (I told you I was fussy ::dang:: ). It is not quite as well made as a modern Case XX but you should know I have problems with their quality too! Maybe it is just that Great Eastern has spoiled me. A similar Case XX or Great Eastern would cost 75 to 100 percent more. It's not that bad for a $36 American knife.

Nice one Bill. That barlow just has that classic "look" to it.

Doesn't look like it has had much of a workout. Etch is still clear and blades are full. Nice find. ::tu::

I don't believe it saw much pocket time either considering how clean it is inside (no rust no lint and most of all not cleaned).

Great barlows, every one. Big Monk, that Bear is a fine looking knife. I think the reason it has two pins is because it is bare-headed. Looking at the Bear Catalog for 2009, I think all the Barlows have two pins, except the yellow handle 4th Generation which has 3.
