Incredibly RARE!! Antique KA-BAR, UNION CUTLERY, Standing Bear Hunting Knife
This fantastic, old KA-BAR, UNION CUTLERY hunting knife is approximately 8 3/8" long with an approximately 4 5/16" long blade. The beautiful clip blade with grooved "thumb guide" on top(see pics) is front tang stamped: KA-BAR AUG. 31, 19_ _(see pics). The rear tang is marked: UNION CUTLERY CO., OLEAN, N.Y.(see pics). The leather ring handle is "grip shaped"(see pics). Finally and INCREDIBLY!, the handle is enhanced by an inlayed, brass colored, oval shield depicting a standing bear with raised lettering saying: KA-REG U.S. PAT. OFF. BAR(see pics). In 60 years of collecting, I have only seen this handle/shield set-up one other time. I believe this was a special line of knives made by KA-BAR only briefly. This knife comes with a newer, replacement, hand-sewn, leather sheath - not the original. Buyer to pay $20.00 for postage, insurance, packaging, transportation and, Paypal's share of the shipping.
