I just read this on his facebook page: "I received a call last Thursday from the bosses at Knives Illustrated Magazine--my day job for the last 14 years. I have held the job under several different owners, but that tenure ended with five simple words. "Your position has been terminated.&qu...

J. Bruce Voyles is no longer the editor of 'Knives Illustrated'. Anybody know anything about that? (He didn't even say goodbye.)

Re: 23TL
So are you saying that it opens normally (and locks somehow?) and when you want to close it, you push the lever up? I see GEC's website has been updated with more information but it still isn't clear to me exactly how it works.

Anybody know what the heck the #23TL is all about? Something that I've never seen before.

Re: Northfield Brand Blade Finish
I have a White Owl with satin finished blades and I like it better than my knives with polished blades. Seems more like a 'real' knife to me.

Thanks for the link, Classic Case. I learned a lot and got my first close up look at Bill Howard. I think a full scale interview with him would be fascinating.

Re: TSA TO ALLOW KNIVES ON PLANES!!!!
Wow! I was surprised to see how much opposition there has been to the revised TSA regulations. I had no idea how many knife-haters there were out there. It's almost if the people who don't carry a knife don't want anybody else to carry one either. It's hard to believe that in a world full of knives,...

GEC Pricing
Here's a question that I have always wondered about. Did GEC intentionally create retail prices way above the actual selling price in order to create the illusion of 'getting a good deal' or were the prices just beaten down by compitition? You'd think that there would have to be some markup, or nobo...

Re: TSA TO ALLOW KNIVES ON PLANES!!!!
While I understand everyone's cynical attitude toward the new TSA rules, I see this change in regulations as just one more step in the loosening of knife restrictions all across the country (see ConservativeKnives, link http://www.kniferights.org/). We have a long way to go to get back to the pre-sw...

Re: Are people still collecting GEC?
I also stand with whitebuffalo58. In my worst nightmare, GEC finds cheaper and faster ways to make knives, starts running full page ads in Knives Illustrated, decorates their knives with ‘I love Mom’ slogans, gets bought out by a conglomerate that only cares about maximizing the bottom line and then...

Re: Are people still collecting GEC?
WHAT?? I'm SHOCKED!! OK, OK, I have a couple of those too (not as many as you, I'm sure). I'm probably a little premature in predicting the demise of all slippies. There still seems to be plenty of them around and I'm sure they'll still be here long after I'm gone. OK, kid, :D I'm glad to know you d...

Re: Are people still collecting GEC?
I suppose GEC gains some customers by the things that they do and loose some customers for the same reason. There are so many GEC's out there with numbers on them I really don't think that they mean much anymore. I buy (and use) the GEC's that I like, and I really don't care if they have a number or...

Call me a sissy if you want, but my upper limit is 3 1/2 in.. In my urban environment I just feel more comfortable carrying a smaller knife.

Re: Are people still collecting GEC?
And I in turn have to agree with Earl. For most people, using knives are generally some kind of one handed opener. If someone did want a slippie to carry in their pocket, Smokey Mountain would be happy to send them a Steel Warrior for ten bucks (plus $10.00 shipping, ha ha). On the other hand, peopl...

Re: Are people still collecting GEC?
So here's my uninformed opinion. I see the market for pocket knives in a general decline and that most of the people who do buy knives these days (slip joints in particular) are collectors. Up until now GEC has succeeded in large part, not by creating a new market, but by taking market share from ot...

Re: NO MORE POLITICS !
While I agree that we shouldn't have to listen to people telling us who are enemies are, it's OK to express a chauvinistic preference for knives made in America, right?
Otherwise we will probably be disenfranchising a majority of the people who post on this website.

Re: New to GEC
The Conductor certainly fits the bill size-wise and it is definitely a knife that I am proud to own, but for some reason those two chunky guys keep jumping into my pocket (a latent fondness for Whalers?). In the forward to 'Collecting Case Knives", by Steve Pfeiffer, John Sullivan wrote, "...
