Re: Robeson Cattaraugus Knife Collage
Thank you for the comments, guys ::tu:: Here's a correct example: robeson1.jpg robeson2.jpg The original blade was a sheepfoot. It's an unusual blade with a notch on the spine. Here's the parts knife shown again for comparison: s-l1600 %281%29.jpg It's unlikely that anyone would find an original bla...

Re: Robeson Cattaraugus Knife Collage
https://www.ebay.com/itm/123087270075 Seller updated the description and there's actually a bid on it for $200. Really makes me wonder how someone can know it's a parts knife and still bid $200. My guess is the buyer is going to put a different blade in it and resell it described falsely as real. I ...

Thanks! It is an article in a trade journal --> Hardware Age, 1931, Volume 127, Issues 10-18, page 65treefarmer wrote:supratentorial,
Very interesting. Seems as though someone back in 1931 knew what they were talking about. Is this from a book or an article in a magazine?

(1931) Little Things Worth Knowing About Selling Pocket Knives
Unfortunately, Google books isn't providing full access to the article. I pieced together this quote from 4 separate previews. Little Things Worth Knowing About Selling Pocket Knives 1931 "Most men are more particular about selecting their pocket knives than in choosing many other articles invo...

Robeson Cattaraugus Knife Collage
The Cattaraugus pen blade does not belong. The original blade was a full length sheep foot (with a notch in the back). Can't see detail clearly in the photos but it looks like the stamps may be "cleaned" right off the two remaining Robeson blades. It's pretty easy to see this pen blade doe...

Re: Three spring Whittler
Glad you guys enjoyed the scans. ::tu:: Thank you for the info, Lee. I don't have Zalesky's guide but writers often use a mix of "terms of art" that were originally used in the industry as well as modern collector terms that were not used when the knives were originally made. My guess is Z...

Henry Sears & Son made the Eureka Cattle knives in several sizes. Here's one of the larger ones. Enrique Pena patterned his Eureka Cattle on this knife. Of course, he made some changes like 2 springs and bronze bushings. r58h6Xe.jpg ZO7bYy2.jpg bD9etwI.jpg zInQomu.jpg S2UmmYb.jpg Np3T0AV.jpg

Nice looking knife Joe with lovely bone ::tu:: ::tu:: ... Not sure I would call it a whittler with a punch blade - maybe a stockman or small cattle knife of sorts ::shrug:: .. the 3 springs are cool 8) ... Funny the knife looks alot bigger than 3 1/4" probably based on 3 springs which makes it...

Longblade, Could you post a scan? I'd love to see it! I've never seen "junior stock whittler". I'll post some related scans in a sec.

Henry Sears & Son 3353 from the 1865 line in the reprint of the 1920s Farwell catalog looks like it may be a match. The book definition of the pattern is Eureka Cattle knife. See the fancy cattle knife derivatives section of Levine's Guide. Whittler is a modern collector term applied to many pat...

The older scanners seem to work best. I have not had good luck with the new scanners that use an LED light source. The LEDs seem to create lots of reflections. Unfortunately, I left my old Epson behind when I moved. Wish I still had it. My newer Epson has the LED light source. Charlie (upnorth) uses...

Re: Electric Cut Co ??
The photos aren't really sufficient for determining authenticity of the knife but here's what I can see in the photos. The knife was heavily rusted and pitted. The blades have been resurfaced with abrasives. The photo of the stamp is not the best but it is probably a correct stamp that looks amateur...

At this time, there is not a way to pay through your seller's dashboard before a balance is owed, but you can send a check to AAPK & we can clear your account manually. Hi Bryan. I'm short on checks so instead I sent a PayPal payment to the same "sales@" email address that the payment...

Re: Old broke Townley, Kansas City
Pattern is a very desirable 5 blade "sowbelly" (a modern collector term for a stockman with a curvy handle). Difficult to know the age from the book dates since they are apparently still in business. Based on the construction of the knife and the pattern, I'd guess your knife is from the 2...

How to pay bill early?
I'd like to pay my balance ahead of schedule but I don't see any way to make a payment early. Does the link only show after the due date? My balance is not due for several months but I'd rather settle things up now so that I don't have to worry about it later. I don't currently have anything listed ...

Re: How do you clean these yellow scales????
I never needed to clean Delrin with anything more than Dawn detergent. If you want to stick with mild abrasives, you might try a Mr Clean Magic Eraser. Delrin has good chemical resistance so you could try alcohol or acetone. Supposedly it even has excellent resistance to xylene but I've never tested...

Re: Sharpening a Camillus Knife
In general, I wouldn't really recommend a pull through sharpener. They can't reach the last bit and they do a mediocre job on the rest. I have gifted the $3-4 Gerber pull through sharpeners to non knife people. If you go that route, I'd suggest sticking to ones with ceramic rods, not carbide. Check ...
