Re: It's In The Mail

Still more, in the mail The kitchen knife thread got me started so the first two new ones are a couple of Ontario Knife pieces. One is an old Hickory (8"blade), and the second is a True Edge (10"blade). Both are newer but nice users when they are cleaned up. Cheaper than dirt... 3 bucks, ...

I can barely afford knives--haha! Can't afford collecting cars! I haven't given cars much thought but in general our values influence our perceptions.
Me neither. I just find this interesting.

Re: Attractive Patina vs Unattractive Patina...

The response to the question depends on ones perception of knives. If a knife is just a tool, then you're probably not interested in the question or even reading the forum. If the knife is old and viewed as a historical artifact, then patina is just a matter of condition and preservation. If a knif...

Re: Attractive Patina vs Unattractive Patina...

Great showing Kieth. I agree with you on this one. Well that brings me to this: I've been giving thought to what I'm ultimately partial to: cleaned and polished or original patina. I've always been an originalist in all things collectible. I never want to see collectible, and/or rare objects altere...

Attractive Patina vs Unattractive Patina...

Can I see what you consider beautifully aged pocket knives, and then please show examples of terribly unattractive aging/patina? Let the unattractive examples be complete and not have unsightly damage; in other words let the unattractive examples be full blade and complete, just with ugly aging. Tha...

Re: Favorite under 3 inches...

SOME GREAT PICTURES OF SOME small KNIVES! I only have a few and I haven't carried one in quite some time, like some of the other commenters have mentioned. I think in my case it's because as I have gotten older the hands are not as fluid in handling small things, knives included. I would rather hav...

Re: Favorite under 3 inches...

This is a great thread. These for whatever reason, are my favorite little knives. Coming in at 2 7/8 or 3 inches. A true mini trapper. Top to bottom R-1323 R-672 R-675 R-673 R-983 But of all of them the R-983 is my favorite, love the sabre clip on a little knife. Outstanding collection. Envious. ::...

They actually take suggestions on their FB page for 'Will it Blend' requests. I was thinking of suggesting blending a pocket knife bu...

LOL... I saw Breaking Bad, and figured THAT looked like fun. ::facepalm:: Not! I am actually working on developing a Graphine based epoxy for use with carbon fiber. I have a hydrofoil sport boat design (similar to the International Moth series of boats) that I am developing, and my main focus is to...

Re: Favorite under 3 inches...

I generally don't like knives under 3 inches. They are just too small and although I have never dropped one, I always feel like I'm going to when opening and closing the blades. My two favorites in that size range are both gifts. This 1979-1985 Buck 705 was a gift and I'm very fond of it. The 700 s...

No one knows the answer to the question that you asked! Perhaps the day you last saw the knife as "stable" there was a particularly acidic atmosphere? Maybe you cooked fish? nu Just so that you all know that I am not trolling or pretending to be interested... here is my home lab. I would ...

Re: J. ROWE SHEFFIELD info needed...

John, I am not sure why this knife did not elicit more comments. It is a nice old tuxedo pattern (I believe). For what it is worth, my opinion is that your knife is actually real tortoise shell. If you look closely, with magnification, real tortoise shell will have layers. There is no discrete spot...

Re: Any whetstone sharpeners out there?

I have oilstones, waterstones, arkansas stones, ceramics, diamonds, edge pro apex, spyderco sharpmaker and a lansky. The edge pro is the best overall, but I do quite a bit of freehand as well. If you are highly skilled at freehand nothing is better, but I'm not quite that good. My favorite freehand...

Any whetstone sharpeners out there?

I've been reading a little about sharpening techniques, and naturally I'm wondering what method most on AAPK use. Also interested in when to sharpen, when not to sharpen (rare antique knives), materials used, techniques used for different type of steel, etc. I've been seeing some nice Japanese Whets...
