Re: Can Anyone Tell Me About This E.C. Simmons Keen Kutter 8

Thanks for lending your time to this knife. Mr Noyes Sir., umm I just recently went back to the red background after 2 years of blue. I had forgotten about sports use of a red background. These are my pictures and I am not he :) . Dannno, Good eye Sir. I managed to power right past the 3828 and agre...

Re: Can Anyone Tell Me About This E.C. Simmons Keen Kutter 8

Thank you sir and I agree on the later production date. What has me concerned is how crisp and complete all tang stamps are and the lack of wear to the bone. Also, this is the first E.C. Simmons I've seen that had this big of a flaw when hafted and on the mark side at that. Look at the gap low at th...

Can Anyone Tell Me About This E.C. Simmons Keen Kutter 860?

I have this knife and can't find any info for the pattern number stamped on the primary reverse tang which is 860. It measures 3-⅞ inches closed. Based on the makers mark stamped into all three blade tangs it should date from somewhere around 1904-1942. Does this look genuine? I would appreciate inf...

Looks kinda frosty. Does SMKW carry them? I recently seen a high end USA axe for sale on ebay under the Miller Bros. name. How many people are using this name?

Hehe I like it. Do you know where I could get me an Excaliber? It would need to have already been pulled from the stone though… :D

Re: Anyone Want To Take A Guess On This One?

Yes sir. Mr.WB is right and you better sharpen it gently on a stone that's not too course. I used a wheel coated with silicon carbide to sharpen one of these one time and one time only. Is that even a blade grind on those blades or did they stamp it into that shape? seriously… One pass on the wheel ...

Re: Browning small stockman question

Well made knives, seem like the USA and German knives are harder to come by. Good score Funny thing about that is that years ago it seems the USA made brought more money but people who used them preferred the German made Browning's. Possibly because they cost a little less but probably because they...

Re: Anyone Want To Take A Guess On This One?

I've seen them but can't recall specific makers and models. I think one of them was the company who made the shell handle knives which were only stamped U.S.A. or Made in USA. They made you think Colonial but were made by some other Co. I'm thinking The Ideal Knife Co. for some reason. Then there is...

Blacked out for stealth is my guess...... Great job on it Scott. IM :) I agree but why stop there? If it was done so that light wouldn't reflect off of it why stop there? Why wouldn't they black out the whole darned thing? Unless he was that guy who has all of the tools/gear but does none of...

Beautiful knives fellas ::tu:: There sure are some rare birds flying around this thread. Cool bit of history cato. Does your knife have the hickory and diamond stamped on the tang? I don't recall ever seeing a knife from this hardware co.

Re: Utica Lightning Bolt Shield Notso Nazi Knife On Ebay

I don't know much about Hitler or Nazi's, German Youth or the SS for that matter. The SS was the SS as far as I know and was never just The S so I see it as a lighning bolt. The shield isn't out of place for the era in everyday American culture either as far as what was popular in technology and sty...

Utica Lightning Bolt Shield Notso Nazi Knife

The topic of whether this was a Hitler Youth knife or not has been discussed before here on AAPK. Myself, I think it was just a cool old USA made knife with an uncommon shield.

By the way, What kind of glue do you reckon they used for the construction? If anyone knows would you please tell the folks in Germany or China or wherever BOKER is based. Maybe it will help keep the shields in their knives since they refuse to pin them. ::woot::

I don't know what in the heck this knife I have is but I'm going to say that in my opinion it is not a Hassam made knife. I tried and tried to take a clearer mo betta picture of the tang stamp but was unable to. I'll upload one anyway as now I am curious who the maker of this little dandy is. If any...

Re: Most valuable & most rare?

As has been mentioned earlier in this thread value is relative. The price one person puts on a knife may be no where near what another values it at. The J. Ward knife Charlie posted is rare and one of a kind, however there are many examples of Ward`s pocket knives, some posted right here at AAPK. I...
