Re: How do I know if this is the correct sheath

I believe the scabbard is correct. You are also correct that it is is a commercial model, the military ones also had steel guards.

Re: ID help KA-BAR, UNION CUT

Absolutely beautiful knives!! The top one is a model 206, I don't know the model of the fish knife. The 206 is late 1930s, the fish knife is late teens-1923. I have examples of both but would like yours if you ever want to sell.

Re: Shenandoah show this Friday and Saturday

….next year we're driving down on Friday as a lot of knives were already picked over by 9:00 Saturday morning I wonder if any AAPK’ers scored? ::shrug:: I sold a bunch of knives but my highlight was I got a very near to mint KA-BAR fixed blade in trade on one knife. It is an early model called Robi...

Cool Dennis!! I have that very mold. Mine has a couple of cavities where the plating has worn off or I'd use it. you're right about rare, I have been looking for a mint usable one for years.

Re: Anyway to loosen screws that have glue or locktight?

Penetrating oil or WD 40 won't do a damn thing to loosen Locktite. There are different Locktites and they loosen at different temperatures. If you're worried about heat you can use a soldering iron and put the tip right on the screw head, should loosen it up.

Hi Dan,if it is a mint etch that is grey, flitz or simichrome will remove the greyness. Never use those on a knife with a nice grey etch.

Knife should have a can opener in the small end. I think the scales have been swapped from a dog head clasp knife, they used the same handle dies.

I have several USMC marked handles with well marked Kingston on the bail. I think the OP knife is a civilian model.

It's a beauty Dan! What is the closed length? Definitely a stockman, folks who haven't seen a four blade one just need to get out more often.

I agree with Eric, letters in the handle were stamped in after knife left factory by someone who thought they'd get more for the knife.

In a book about Collins machetes and tools they say the model 18 with the black handles was made until 1955 so there are many out there that weren't WW2 knives.

Re: Is this typical quality for a Sod Buster Jr.?

There is no guy at Case who makes knives. One person sorts the CNC cut out blades, one person stamps the handle liners, one person spins the rivets, etc.
Therefore a bunch of people contributed to making a sub par knife.

Better inspect the insides, It may have never had a spring. They use the lever lock (no spring) on their folding bowies and larger folding knives.

Re: Would like to find information on these 2 knives please

Marbles had model names and numbers for their knives. Yours may be the model number you found, I don't have model number info. The model name was Outdoor. Most folks use the model names to describe Marbles knives rather than model number.

Superb knife!! Can't see condition from poor photos, but these never go for 3-500 on ebay, more like 800-1,000 in nice condition. Your knife was made between late 1920s-about 1941.

Re: Would like to find information on these 2 knives please

They are not rehandled knives. They are two versions of Marbles economy knives called OUTDOOR. Marbles made the two different wood handle knives. A shame they have been so heavily cleaned and polished. They were made in the 1930s and nobody knows how many of any model Marbles made back in the day. P...

Re: Need help identifying aMarbles fixed blade please

The Ideal was sold with either a full cross guard OR a single guard like the one here. It is not true that the Ideal was a double guard knife. The owner has still not answered if they measured the blade from the tip to the guard or the tip to the ricasso. Marbles did make a small knife called the Sp...

Re: Need help identifying aMarbles fixed blade please

No canoes made in the 1940s, it was discontinued early. The thingy crossing the A is not a serif, serifs are the little feet at the bottom of letters. I also dispute as do many other collectors that the left facing cross on the A dates are incorrect in the orange book. I think it's a shortened 4&...

Re: Marbles Fixed Blade ID please

Like John says, somebody modified the pommel, it dd not come from the factory like that. The sheath appears to be a lot newer than the knife. Did you measure the blade from tip to guard? The knife appears to be a model called "Ideal" but Marbles didn't make the Ideal as small as 3&3/4 ...

Re: WTB: GEC Beaver shields

I'd go to my local jewelry craftsperson. Anybody good with a jeweler's saw could cut them out in a minute or so and maybe another couple minutes to chase in the details. I could see they wouldn't sell any of their proprietary shields and it may be agin the law to use the logo.
