Re: Lockwood pampa help please
Dan Thanks for the link, I think they are the except for the scales mine has stag and the one on the other forum is jigged bone. I don’t think it was a quill but you never know, interesting someone the other forum mention a rope knife. I think that’s unlikely as it’s not a strong knife, well made bu...

Re: Lockwood pampa help please
Someone suggested it might be quill knife, while I can see where they are coming from I feel it’s a little bit too large but never say never. Looking at the end of the knife under my watch loop I’m pretty sure it’s not been altered. I suspect it’s from late 1880’s with brass liners and lovely worn s...

Re: Haigh - 96 Lord St - Liverpool
I suspect that Haigh was the retailer rather than the maker. I would bet that it’s a Sheffield made knife ordered by Haigh and had the retailer stamped . I have come across a number of retailers that had their names stamped on the knives, sometimes they were gift knives

Nice pre 1890 Taylors Eye stag knife
Hi This is the second antique centre find. No problems here just a nice knife in used condition . Its eight and a half inches open and blade is three and three quarter inches long. The second blade is two and three quarters of an inch in length. The springs are really good and it snaps open and shut...

Lockwood pampa help please
Hi It’s been a while but I couldn’t walk past these two in the local antique centre. The first one is a bit of a mystery, its clearly a Lockwoods Pampa knife but the blade has me baffled. Its just over 3.75 inches long when close. It’s a long blade 3.25 inches but the end is a strange shape, it’s a ...

Re: Thomas Turner Sheffield Encore Rope Knife
I've owned a few of these and I think this would be from the mid 19th century anywhere from 1850. to 1880 give or take 10 years. I did have one with a sailors service number scratched or burnt on it and the British ordnance /|\, research showed he was in the British Royal Navy around 1870 but only f...

Re: miller bro's
I don't buy knives now or at least I try not to, the old blood thinning drugs make it hard for me to stop the red stuff coming out and I do like a sharp knife. I'm still into my watches though don't seem to cut myself with them? Strange that.

I think the SOE knife also had a tyre slashed at the opposite end to the blade.

I think you are correct about the antler.ea42 wrote:Gerry what a great knife, it was obviously a favored tool of its previous owner. I don't think those handles are bone, looks more like well worn stag.

Taylors Pruning bone handle 1880 ish knife
I’ve been told, by the wife not to buy knives because I keep cutting myself! Well that’s a fair comment but every now and then I come across something I just have to own. I bought this old Taylors pruning knife in a local antique shop for a very good price. Its blade is about 3" and the handle ...

Re: Military watches
Scale Military Only just seen your post don't lurk on here very often now but its raining in blighty so I'm surfing. To answer your question the watch is one of the largest ATP's measuring 33mm. These Reconvilla watches are rare and represent good value at around £200 if you ever see one. This one ke...

Re: Military watches
I would say it is worth repairing but it all depends how much that's going to cost you. I've not got any Bulova but they are good watches and were issued via the USA ordinance dept. Can you take a photo without flask K7K? The numbers would then be legible and i suspect you would be able to get a cle...

Re: Military watches
Thought I would share my Christmas present from my son and daughter. It's called a Reconvillia and as rare as hens teeth, this one was bought in the late 1940's when the army were getting rid of the old style watches in favour of the Dirty Dozen. Its in unworn condition with the original issue Pig s...

Re: H. Fox Norwich
I'm not surprised its not in Tweedales book being that's all about Sheffield. Even though you bought it in Norwich I would suspect the H Fox was once a Norwich shop and they may well have had these knives made by a Sheffield maker and had their stamp struck on them. Sometimes you find the Sheffield ...

Re: GI private purchase watch
BOB I'm not familiar with the Gotham make in fact I don't think I've ever seen one. If you like to wear the watch and you've had it 50 years I would recommend that you get it serviced as the old oil that lubricates the watch will be getting sticky and maybe making the watch run slow. The small secon...

Re: Jas. vicks sons vintage knife
You may find more knives with the retailer stamped on the tang, I've got one stamped with the retailer, manufacturer and what I think is the persons name that ordered the knife. I think you will be able to read the tang stamps but just incase the retailer is BAXTER BURY St EDMUNDS the shop is no lon...

Re: Jas. vicks sons vintage knife
I would suspect that the Jas Vic & sons is likely to be a retailer and had a number of knives made with his retail outlet stamped on them. What are the materials on the budding handle?
