I agree 100%. I tried to inform the owner this is a cobbled knife and he lashed back at me rudely. I’d use caution if I were thinking about dealing with him.

Good info Ken. The early Case years are quite confusing to say the least!

Re: W.R. Case Bradford Pa. Knife Identification.

What is the closed length? Ken Edit: Never mind. The stamp on the knife appears to be W.R. CASE & SON, which was used from 1902-1903. During which time the company did not make their own knives, but had them made on contract by others. Relatively few with that stamp exist and I know of no catal...

Re: W.R. Case Bradford Pa. Knife Identification.

In all of my years collecting, I have never heard of a Case knife made by Miller Brothers. If you look closely, you can see the blades have likely been swapped out as evidenced by the pin in the bolster not being finished properly. It's a Miller Brothers knife that had a blade swap many years ago.

Early Case Bradford made by Miller Brothers?????

I've recently seen this knife on the bay. I have never heard of Case having knives made by Miller Brothers. I know in the early years, Case did contract out some knives, but Miller Brothers??? Hoping someone can enlighten me. It appears in the images that the blades have been swapped at some point (...

Re: Old, possibly Civil War vintage

As I said in my earlier response: The practice of trade marks on Barlow bolsters was started in 1876 by John Russell so this knife must be after that. l The "q heart dart" trade mark had a complex life, coloured by litigation and inheritance covering more than 120 years , all of which I c...

Re: Kings Mtn....?

I work in Kings Mountain, NC and hit a small flea market near by from time to time. A couple of years ago, I met an older gentleman in his 80s named Charlie (can't remember last name). He collected pocket knives since he was 6 years old. He was selling off some knives to help put his granddaughter t...

Re: Old, possibly Civil War vintage

I also found this on another forum (so wouldn't this information date my knife to 1875 at the very latest?): "Tweedale covers several cutlers from the Oates family, who seem to have originated in the Stannington District of Sheffield, which sits on the hill between the River Rivelin and the Riv...

Here is an early Oates I picked up recently. Any idea if the date I found of 1820 to 1850 while researching this knife is accurate? Thanks guys!

Re: Old, possibly Civil War vintage

Chevy, sorry I have to disappoint you. I last posted on this topic 5 years ago. Luke Oates of Stannington was my ancestor and since 5 years ago I have gathered hundreds of detailed documents from many sources about his businesss, his family and the Barlow knife business of Hallamshire. The Oates tr...

Re: Old, possibly Civil War vintage

Just picked up this early Oates Barlow. From my research, the bolster with arrow, heart, and bugle dates the knife between 1820 and 1850.

Case Tested pecan budding knife 1202 D&B

Just picked up this scarcely seen Case Tested 1202 D&B pecan budding / grafting knife. Appears unused. Does anyone know of any recent sales records on a knife like this?

Ever heard of a Lewis Murray knife?

Just picked up this neat little knife and was wondering if anyone had ever heard of the tang stamped "Lewis Murray"? No other markings on any of the tangs. Seems to be a very well made little knife.

Re: The Old Timer 2OT Family Continues to Grow!

lt632ret, thank you so much for the input. I always love learning more about these knives! Personally, I think the admins should block bladecollectorr from the group. Completely uncalled for. (And to all who have commented, thank you as well!). I just got another 2OT in, but it's in pretty rough con...

Re: The Old Timer 2OT Family Continues to Grow!

It's an earlier Schrade Cut Co. Although pattern number isn't present (or is worn off), I'm pretty sure it's a 2863.

The Old Timer 2OT Family Continues to Grow!

My Schrade Old Timer 2OT family continues to grow! I have researched these knives for several years. I recently acquired the knife on far right with Winterbottom handles. Although I know this could be a rehandle job, I do know at the beginning of production, Schrade experimented with handle styles a...

Re: 6235 1/2 with low pull?

I spotted this 65-69 model online with the following information: "You'll note from the photo's that the Clip Master Blade is positioned as blade number 2 (behind the Pen Blade when viewed from the front Shield side). Beside this, the clip also has a Low Nail Pull which was not common-place, or...

Re: 6235 1/2 with high pull?

So, researching further, it appears I got my "low" and "high" reversed. This 6235 1/2 would be a low pull. Again, the first I've ever run across on a 6235 1/2 pattern. Anyone else ever seen one? Another thing different about this knife is the master clip blade is positioned behin...

Re: what is the rarest case knife you have??

Probably one of the rarest in my collection. Case Springville sunfish / toenail knife. Case only operated in the Springville, NY plant for a year or two after the fire destroyed their Little Valley plant in 1912. So, this knife would date between 1912 and 1914.

6235 1/2 with low pull?

I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on the scarcity of this Case XX 6235 1/2 with a low pull on the master? I acquired this one recently, and it's the first one I've ever found with low pull. Thanks in advance!
