Re: Ulster Collecting
Three of my Ulsters 1st is a stockman 45, but the pattern # of the last two are still a mystery. Tang stamp on the 2nd is Ulster Knife Co., and the Congress is Ulster Knife USA. No ID numbers on either of these knives. If someone had any dates or listings, I would greatly appreciate the clues. MVC-0...

Re: BONES BONES BONES
And the list goes on and on and on and onnnnnnnn. There is an old timers saying,"That youth is wasted on the young." I suppose for many reasons the quality, and style, and variety, material - even the competition to make wonderful knives has been compromised. So it is very easy to identify...

Identification Help
Sometimes I feel like I don't need this much fun. I brought home 2 abandoned knives today, good thing I didn't bring home 3, or there would now be 3 questions instead of just 2. Only 1 question belong here however, so my mystery is finding who made this treasure and maybe an estimate of when. No mak...

Ulster Knives History & Catalogs
I have just begun my interest into Ulster in past year or so. I have ventured into a very useful website, WWW.Collectors-of-Schrades-R-us. Thank you to the fellow collectors, who have invested their time and resources to list and upload many dealer catalogs and info pages of Schrade, Camillus, Kutma...

THE TOTALLY HONEST ANSWER ! At the same time, the same response is surely not the wisdom I may want to hear when my preconceived emotion is included. But since it is my $$$, for somebody ----- there are two answers, on those terms, both opinions.

Re: Early Boker Knives
Another of the Boker family. Tang stamp reads "BOKER / USA and 6005 on the pile side. 1975 Boker catalog lists 6006 and 6007, but with smooth bone handles, I think 6005 is an older production. BOKER / USA was used in 1916 along with VALLEY FORGE stamping. Appreciate any comments.

Re: Sears Craftsman
Thanks guys for the link to "WISHBOOK". I was aware that history / production records was not common on Sears. I remember left button clicking my way through the catalog archive pubs when I tried -- back then. It is just a simple piece of luck to find "my knife" in the catalog, w...

Re: Edge Brand and Edge Mark History
Appreciate your replies. I would really like to know how many other knives were produced of this paticular handle style / pattern. Since I have these 2 and they "sort of fit my liking", I hope they were only part of that family. How many other models were in the production line ? Of course...

Edge Brand and Edge Mark History
I recently got a Edge Brand Fixed Blade, stag handled # 54, of course it has a distinctive design, (top in photo). Now in past few days I have now an Edge Mark #52 (middle in photo), - same design, but with different blade. There are certinally many knife makers, even in those days, from Germany wit...

Re: A Miracle...Or God's Answer To A Father's Anguish Cry?
There is an old hymn, What a friend we have in Jesus . I have often thought the words of this hymn have so much meaning, we can sing it, and that helps me remember the words, but after that to just repeat the message to focus on the words - even in my mind - or with a friend. The message of those wo...

Re: Another Western Fixed Blade, ID Help
Thanks, very helpful in details of Western's marking and insight to the time period of this knife. Although I was not collecting knives, and had no respect for their history, I recall "similar appearance knives" in my younger years. Now I have found an enjoyment in owning them, cleaning th...

Re: Ka Bar skinner
That certainally fills in all my blanks. Obviously, the knife makers in past years did not take seriously the value of history of productions, partly because we collectors were not around. Their primary objective was marketing and making a profit. I would suppose that your research and my interest i...

Ka Bar skinner
Got a few old Ka Bar's, but I thought I needed this one too to fill my empty spot. Now I just need to fill in the blanks, it has no model identity on the blade. It is 8" long with a 4 1/8" blade and leather stack handle. From the tang stamp, and AAPK notes, it was manufactured between 1943...

Great to hear an account of acomplishment -- instead of excuses, pleas for sympathy, or what comes to be standing in line for a handout in the life of an adult parent -- what an example as a role model. How often we see an adult, maybe a parent, standing on a street corner with a cardboard sign, &qu...

In the '50s, if I had a quarter it was because Dad gave it to me, and he was never that loose with money to anybody. I would have still been in grade school, so I lived pretty close to the house, guess I bought my first knife after I bought my first car, and that was after I was in the US Army, had ...

Thanks Treefarmer, always nice to hear a confirmation from somebody who has seen more than 'ol me. I used a magnifying glass on what is left of the tang stamp. I is enough to agree with the '45 to 48 stamp ID, so I am satisfied. Don't know yet how long the 84 was in production, apparently at least f...

Another Queen? ID help please
This knife was "suposedley" previously owned by a former employee in the Queen factory. The tang stamping is not legible, could be Queen or maybe not. Queen catalog of '79 and 80 editions only list one knife of this size, with leather handles (illustration shows four rings in handles - may...
