Not Mark but the pencil lead is harder than the rust, softer than the blade, so it removes quite a bit of the rust without scratching the blade. Just “scribble” over the rust spots.

Re: Rough Riders!
Once again I have been unable to resist a Rough Rider. As soon as I saw one of these on Ebay I just knew that eventually I would get one. I held off at first, hoping that the craving would subside with time. Of course that did not work: it never does ... Here is my newest RR whittler. It is 3 13/16...

Re: camillus #72
I'd put a drop of zap a gap in there and stabilize that crack. If I may, what is “zap a gap”? My first thought is super glue but I might be way off base! LOL It's pretty much the same thing but flows as little better than super glue. It gets down in that crack before it sets. Thank you, sir. If I’d...

The number is stamped on the secondary blade: 6208SS. The main blade is just stamped with the Case XX SS USA and 8 dots.whitebuffalo58 wrote:Is there a number stamped on the back of the main blade? If that's the original blade, you may be able to send it in to Case for repairs cheaper.

Re: Lazy Blade Fix?
I have a 1974 6383 pattern knife and the main blade opens to a position just like that. It does have snap but I decided if I tried to "fix" it I would probably just make it worse. This one has a “little” snap, didn’t realize it a first. I’m sure you are probably right: I need to leave it ...

It opens very easily and smoothly. I hope these photos are good enough. It appears to me to be a 1982 model 6208SS

Lazy Blade Fix?
I bought an older Case Half Whittler the other day with a “lazy” main blade; it seems to function okay but has no snap. Is that something that can be repaired or “helped along”?

Re: camillus #72
I got lucky; the knife was already sharp, just needed a little stropping. I made a little shavings with it this afternoon and the angle is a little steeper than I’m used to but it’s a really nice knife. I’m going to use it as is for a bit and see if I adjust to the angle or need to lower it a bit. E...

I finally got myself a 72, just arrived today. I haven’t had a chance to do anything but a little wipe down on it but I think I’m in love! I’m hoping that tomorrow I can take it for a test whittle.

I got a Nice Strawberry Bone Large Stockman by RR! I’ve been tempted by the strawberry bone but wondered if it’s too bright. What are your thought on it? I find it to a bit brighter than Case Red bone! Easy to find but it won't blind you! Hey, that’s not too bad. Thanks for the comparison photo ::t...

Thanks Keith and Dogleg. I had the chance to use it a little yesterday and it did real fine. That modified blade is going to make a fine detail blade!

My new Rough Rider Splitback Whittler arrived today. Since I’m going to use it for whittling, I spent a while turning the pen blade into a mess - then the mess into a wharncliffe blade.

Well WV Papaw, did you get those other ornaments made for the kids tree? Be good to see a picture of them. By the way I married a West Virginian. I did get them all at least one made and they were all well received. Thank you for asking … since I forgot! ::teary_eyes:: I think there was one more bu...

I picked these RRs up for Christmas gifts on SMKW Black Friday sale. I’m pretty impressed with them overall and especially for less than $6 each. https://i.imgur.com/DZzdjFm_d.jpg?maxwi ... ity=medium

I agree; that's a good looking knife! The hook sharpener is especially neat IMHO. I have looked at the "copper" ones online and like their look but would really like to see one in person before I bought it.

Re: Rough Rider Whittling Buddy RR565
After using this knife a bit I have to say it has a couple of issues I don't care for. The handle is too thin for me to be comfortable for long periods of use. The blades are fairly thick, too, which makes it less than ideal; I would've thought that one blade would be thinner for more detail work an...

That looks great! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. What color/kind of stain(s) did you use by the way?
