How can I tell genuine

I am a long time user--not collector of folding pocket knives--not fixed blades. I wish to buy Western pocket knives that have the best steel carbon blades. My question is how do determine knives made by Camillus or Coleman? What do I look for on the tang of the knife? I want only the better made bl...

Schrade VS Imperial carbon steel

I am asking information on any differences between Imperial and Schrade carbon steel blades.

What I am interested in is there any difference in edge holding or cutting ability between the two?

Hopefully, some actual users of both will chime in.

Thank you, Bryan

Imperial USA vs. Imperial Ireland

I am wondering if the old Imperial Ireland CARBON blades are as good as the Imperial USA ones?

I am talking about edge holding on the carbon blades.

Thanks, Bryan

Getting the best edge on chisel ground knives?

I can sharpen my Victorinox chisel ground knives to a sharp edge, but I can't get them shaving sharp. I have sharpened them by ceramic rods--like Sal says to do (4-6 times on bevel side and 1 time on flat side). Over and over, but not shaving sharp. I have sharpened them like Emerson on stone and th...

Re: Lets have your all time best knife deals (steals) --->

About three years ago, I found on Craigs List a Case Centennial 100 Knife Set in the original roll for $2200.00 after bargaining. I sold it the same day to one of my best customers for $3500.00. The next week, the same set came on eBay for $10,000.00. Some people have told me that I was crazy to sel...

Quick & Easy-- Great LST Mod!

As some of you know, I have been a Gerber LST fan and user from the 1980s. I have also sold them for 30 years. I have found a easy mod to turn your LST into a one hand opening knife. I cut a piece of velcro about 1/4" deep and 1" long and stuck it on the top of the blade near the handle. I...

Gerber vintage stockman information

I wish to know who made the vintage Gerber stockman knives? I am talking about the lightweight Zytel models.
I don't know if Gerber itself made them or farmed it out to Camillus, Schrade, etc.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bryan

Early Gerber LST had Cryogenic Treatment Blades!!

In reading over some early Gerber literature, I discover that the early model Zytel model LST knives were cryogenic quenched. I have always thought the early model LSTs held a better edge than current models. I thought it was due to using a much better grade steel than the current LST use. Now I can...

Old vs New USA Steel--which is best?

I have been a commercial knife sharpener for over 35 years--working at ACE hardware stores, gun shows and life stock auctions. My question is about carbon steel Schrade knives. Over the years I have had customers who claim that their Schrade Walden would hold a better edge than Old Timers. Some woul...

Chisel grind great for wood

I just wanted to mention that the chisel grind found on the Victorinox floral knives make great wood carving knives. You can slice a very thin layer of wood with them and get precision cuts. This assumes you are right handed as these knives have the bevel set up for right handed use. Sharpening them...

Yes, the one in the photo is the one I am talking about.

I emailed the seller and asked if the screw driver was factory made or not and he replied that it was not factory. So I cancelled sale.

Vintage LST had 440C or 440A??

In the Gerber History post by Overt, I was disappointed to read that Pete Gerber said the vintage LST had 440A steel. That steel is inferior to 440C in edge holding. I always thought the original LST knives featured 440C blades. Does anyone have any information on this?

Cheaper whittling blocks

In an earlier posting, I asked about finding a source to buy 2x2x2" whittling blocks. A couple of people kindly supplied some sources. I appreciate those leads, but those places charge retail prices. I make about 2,000 wood blocks with flowers carved on top of them a year. I give these away to ...

Looking for whittling blocks

I use about 100 2x2x2" wood blocks a month to make a base for my wood flowers. My supplier has retired.

Does anyone have any ideas where to get the 2x2x2" size wood blocks? I would prefer a softer wood, but any wood would do.

Thank you kindly, Bryan

Rough Rider Now Offering Carbon Blades!!

For some time, many have said they wished Rough Rider made knives with carbon blades. I see now they do offer these knives in several patterns. I wonder what kind of carbon blades? The standard in U.S. knives for carbon blades is 1095 steel. Has anyone tried them and how easy are they to sharpen --h...

Re: Looking to give away rehabbed pocketknives to charity

Old post but a new idea. I find many missionaries give knives away to natives and this is really well received. For many of the people, this may be the first folding knife they own. I also have given knives away to Indian missions here in the U.S. for the same reason. Bryan
