Re: Is this Western legit?

I've been looking through all my non-TKMWWW documentation as well as through TKMWWW since Olde Cutler asked me about it in a PM and have been unable to find an EXACT match to his knife. It appears to be a 2346 from the 1950 catalog with the the small blades replaced. The 461 brought up by Thomasg f...

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

What was the wrong caliber? That was my tongue in cheek wise crack about it being a 9mm. Colonel Jeff Cooper said the CZ75 would be the greatest modern fighting pistol if only it were in 45acp. For the record, my preferences aside, there’s room for all the calibers at my house. I don’t discriminate...

Re: 2024 Duck Decoy Give Away

The decoy itself measures 14" long and 10 and 1/2" high. This is considered 2/5 scale or about 40% of life size. mighty fine of you OC to keep this annual tradition alive! So if she is 40% of an adult whistling swan, these creatures are not small at 35” long and 26” tall. I had to Google ...

Thanks guys. Due to procrastinating, poor planning, and incompetent bungling I did not meet my usual date of April 7, but we will get it done in April.

2024 Duck Decoy Give Away

It is time again for the now 6th annual Decoy Give Away. The decoy this year will be awarded on April 29, which is also National Zipper Day (???????). This year the prize will be one of my hand carved whistling swan decoys, which has been given a special "crackled" finish. All the winner n...

Re: Miller Bros. 1863-1926

I got this Miller Brothers 3 inch bare head jack from Thomasg in the latest POS exchange. With steel bolsters, liners, and pins it was real rusty inside and the handle material needed replacing. The pile side had a wood scale that looked like beechwood, and the mark side inexplicably had been replac...

Re: Is this Western legit?

It could be legit but it does not show up in any of my catalogue pages from the knife maker who went west .perhaps it could have been offered in a catalogue I have not viewed .lThe frame looks to be the same the as the Mechanics carpenter knife. No.461. The covers are similar to the western pearl t...

Re: Matto Knife

I shot muzzle loaders a lot back in the 1970s. Loved those blanket shoots. Blanket is thrown out on the ground and all shooters throw out a prize on the blanket. After the shooting match is over, high score takes their first choice, second highest next and so on. Usually it is what you see is what ...

Re: Celluloid gone bad.

I picked this one up for a buck because the celluloid is outgassing on the pile side. In fact nothing left of it. The pile side liner likely will have to be replaced too. There is the line of rust on the back of the clip blade. The mark side seems to be fine for now. The knife is a 4 line Camillus S...

Exactly right. As it is now is the way your grandfather carried and used it last. If you "restore" it, then it is something totally different.

Re: The Amateur Astronomy Page

I had about a dozen chances to buy eclipse viewing glasses but passed on them because I wasn’t interested. Now that the day is here and it’s mostly sunny, I wish I would have grabbed a pair. I have several pair, but it is raining here. That's the luck of the draw. One has to beware, because some of...

I've got my rig set up, but chances are not good here. Also have a big garbage bag ready to cover it up as it looks like it may rain here soon.

Re: The Amateur Astronomy Page

Eclipse day, but unfortunately a lot of the country is going to have clouds and rain. We have heavy overcast here in Sioux Falls now. Hopefully some breaks in the overcast will let us see some thing here. We expect about 56% coverage here, as far as totality is concerned.

Re: POS Knives

Well the deed is done. I drilled a 3/32" hole right thru the NY knife tang stamp. The tang is soft as butter, did not even have to use my carbide bit. Another thing I saw and should have pictured is that the master blade is on its own spring, but has a brass catchbit alongside it. I don't think...

I love a Commander size 1911! But the only lightweight 1911 I have is actually my wife’s Kimber Ultracarry, Officer’s size. I’m not a Kimber fan, but it’s a good little pistol nonetheless. What brand is yours? The light weight commander in 9mm is made by "Tisas" in Turkey. I became aware ...

Is this Western legit?

I picked up this Western whittler recently in the POS exchange. My donor sent along a note that he thought this one was a fantasy knife. The only thought I have is whether the 2 smaller blades are original to this knife or have one or both been replaced with something non Western? IMG_5579.JPG IMG_5...
