Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups

Strangely enough I performed a Google search and one of the results was a dealer who had this in stock. It was his last one.

Thanks Jerry. I still drop in from time to time to drool over all the pictures.

Everything's fine here. Little danger of fire at the moment since everything is still so beautifully green. Different situation once everything dries out.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............

My first Case, a 1977 06247.

Technically, I owned a Granddaddy barlow once, but it doesn't count. I sold that one, I'm going to keep and use this knife.

Re: How Many GEC Made Knives Do You Have ?

I've always liked knives, but I'm no collector. I do seem to accumulate them over time. I was attracted to GEC because I wanted a high quality, American made knife crafted the old fashioned way. GEC scratched that itch. I got a few custom slipjoints before I got into GEC. Though not at that level of...

Re: GEC Re-Sale Prices

I don't give much thought to the re-sale market. I'm a user and accumulator, I have no interest in collecting GECs. That means that it's strictly retail for me, I won't pay collectible prices for a using knife. I am fascinated by the GEC phenomenon though. The prices some of their knives command jus...

Re: The infamous 72 Spear.

I had one of these. Beautiful well-matched stag. Even better, the lockwork was flawlessly executed. No vertical or lateral play at all.

I should have kept it. Couldn't get into the bulbous blade at all though.

Re: Desk Knives

That's what I thought this thread was about when I first saw it. How do you suppose they justify the high prices they ask for the "desk knives"? A $2 paring knife would do the same job. ::shrug:: ::hmm:: I think the cost of the knife I posted was quite reasonable actually. Custom made by ...

Here's an Imperial Cattleman. It's not as nice as my GECs, but Imperial sure knew how to grind a blade. I don't remember being able to sharpen another slipjoint so quickly and easily.

Re: GEC Quality Control

I won't presume to speak for the man, but being a collector himself it isn't surprising in the least that he thinks about collectibility.

I'm certain that there are TC barlows out there being used.

Re: GEC Quality Control

There are no games being played with the TC barlows. Those are SFOs. The man who commissions them, places an order for a number that a) he thinks will sell, and b) will preserve their future collectability. There is admittedly a limit on the knives he sells, but understandably he doesn't want to ord...

Re: GEC Quality Control

I cringe everytime I hear someone describe GEC knives as perfect or flawless. To that I saw codswallop. I haven't handled or even seen a perfect knife, and that includes the stuff made by Tony Bose or Ken Erickson. Why the need for such hyperbole? What is wrong with excellence? Pitching the idea of ...

Re: Who EDC's rare or vintage pocketknives?

EDC? As in carry the same knife day in and day out? I'd be surprised if you can find a handful in this bunch that can say that about any knife, much less a rare and valuable antique.
