Re: Wood carving projects
Nice carvings c-wade7. Always like seeing your work.
Had to take a little time off from carving after getting cut to heal up. Back at it with this simple humming bird out of a stick from a beech tree.

Re: Swiss army knife whittling for a beginner, okay or big no?
What is yall's opinion? You can. There's probably better options. More important than any knife is to wear a cut resistant glove and keeping your knife sharp so you don't have to use excessive force and learning to use controlled cuts. This will prevent you from possibly getting cut badly. Watch vi...

Re: Wood carving projects
Thanks. I've had a few people who didn't see a resemblance on the goose. But I don't care. I'm having fun with it and it is just a stick. Going to whittle out a few more stick birds.

First try at chainsaw carving an owl. I'm not sure if it looks like an owl or an alien. I definitely learned from this one for the next time.

That gunstock looks great! I like the drop point on the bow trapper but the badge isn't for me.

Picked up this one in unused condition for $20 from a local gunship today.
There were 3 new in the plastic scrimshaw Barlow's with different designs and boxes but passed on those. He was asking $40ea for those.

Re: Wood carving projects
Used my Bark River Knives to whittle out a hobo fishing reel. Made it out of a stick of cherry. I've never made one before. Some stain and poly then I'll put some line on and see how it works and what changes might have to be made.

Looks way better than my first attempt Doug! Do you use a standard bar or did you buy a carving bar(nickel or dime bar)? Keep it up and you will have a good side business soon. Thanks guys. I use just the standard bar. I have a couple saw that I use to cut firewood to heat my home. A small Stihl ms...

Gnome with a football helmet carved with my seahorse whittler. Detroit Lions play today. And while I'm not a big sports fan I will watch and see if they can make it to the super bowl. If they do I think I'll paint the helmet blue and add the roman super bowl numbers to the front of the base and prob...

Re: Wood carving projects
Had a piece of scrap wood I was going to throw away. Decided to see if I could get something out of it. So it's still a work in progress. Two turtles on a log. Going to add paint and a little bit of wood burning to finish it.
