Re: WHAT DID YOU USE YOUR KNIFE FOR TODAY!!!!!!????

A small thin blade was needed to clean out the debris in a disc of wood. The center had rotted out in the shape of a mushroom but left behind lots of rot and soft wood. The wood itself was nice and hard walnut. The knife is an advertising knife with 'NRA' on the blade. Not one I usually carry but ni...

Re: Wakazashi full polish

I interrupted the refinishing with a heart attack. Spent nine months doing very little other than dealing with my health. The Wakazashi is serviceable and cuts well. Some of the fine detailing got ignored. I forgot about it until I saw this thread come up. Cloud reflection is in better focus than th...

Oh damn.
Double post from last week, I will blame a senior moment, those have been going around a bit more lately.
Same knives, new pictures. I forgot I had done this once already.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?

What is my favorite? Today? When working? Camping? Dinner party? Working in shipping and receiving a knife capable of cutting 2" nylon strapping is mandatory. Keeping an edge that will cut mailing tape and packing slips is also necessary. The grip is large enough to hold tight. Benchmade Barrag...

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?

I carried a Benchmade Valet for after work activities. With a small 3" blade it did not offend anyone. It got lost. I did without until now. I got the pandemic stimulus check about the same time ebay had an active bid going on a gold class Valet. I bid for week and purchased it for under $500. ...

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?

Doing cuticles and cleaning fingernails needs a dedicated knife. I had a nice customized 1-1/2" Buck I carried for 11 years before it disappeared. Replacing it was tough. Gerber, Victorinox, Spiderco, Gerber.JPG The Spiderco just had the wrong angle at the tip. A Gerber of the same dimensions a...

Re: Ma Bell Utility Pole Climbers/Gaffs

This takes me back. 1962, I was ten and my big brother and I were wearing what we called 'spurs' to climb the Cottonwood trees that had no branches for the first 15 feet. Thick bark and soft wood. I was a dozen feet up when my feet gave way, the point had not penetrated the bark and pushed right thr...

Re: Post Your Tactical Folders

The Benchmade is my EDC and the Ontario Knife Company is in my kit bag. The M390 steel is quite hard and difficult to sharpen. The N690 steel is almost as hard and sharpens a bit easier. Both hold an edge very well although my non tactical folder with D2 outcuts them both. Benchmade Ontario Knife.JP...

Re: Best folder around $200

My benchmade with M390 is a good knife, holds its edge well. The T-Spine with Elmax is about the same hardness but cuts a little less easily. My personal overall favorite steel is D2, a bit harder to sharpen but it will outcut all the stainless steels I have compared it to. I first noticed with CPM1...

Re: WASP Knife - Get one now before they're declared illegal.

I remember these when they first came out, I admit surprise they are still made. As a last ditch Hail Mary defense I suppose they surpass a .44 mag derringer if only because of less damage to the hand holding the weapon. Land or sea, if the bearer is able to inject the contents of an entire CO2 cart...

Re: Show off your fixed blades!

Thank you, this is a lot of information I had no idea about. My daughter still likes to do the camping thing when she can, and unlike her older brother, does not have a history of chopping branches held against a rock. Her D2 camp knife fits my stiff hands better anyway so we swapped. RH Ruana origi...

Re: Show off your fixed blades!

This thread needs a bump. This Vic Hangas (Ruana, 1990ish) bowie is in the mail, I hope. vic6.jpg I have been gone over a year. A tale of woe and sadness to be related on a bleeding heart forum. I sold off most of my knives, including two out of three of my Ruana's. I always thought my camping knif...

Re: The test of time.

It seems to me that blade steel would be the easiest thing for a Chinese manufacturer to improve. All they have to do is buy more expensive steel. If they used 8CR13MoV in the Rough Rider knives it would remove nearly all complaints about edge retention. Sure those that are used to super steels on ...

Closing in on the end of days for my stay on Earth. I remember thinking "This is not a good time" during my first heart attack. Then I reflected, "There is never a good time." If everyone is special, no one is special, "no good time" includes the corollary, "no bad...

I personally am skeptical.
Small hints bother me, the fact the seller does not know 'duel' form 'dual' really worries me. Could be a typo, could indicate a scam. Ignorance always worries me.
Does Benchmade have an opinion?

As a youth in the 1960's I had a bayonet stamped "1917" I used for throwing. It was a bit longer than the one pictured and had no trouble penetrating 3/4" plywood at 15 paces. The French Foreign Legion was mentioned at the garage sale. The Gerber Mark 1 used for throwing put its tip 1...

This is not the sheath knife or folder I am used to working with. Costing $500 fifteen years ago, I worried about taking too much metal off. A distinct possibility as I destroyed many functional knives with my habit of grinding blindly full speed ahead. After getting a bit of a shine I noticed areas...
