Re: Stacked leather shrinkage
Thanks Ken, the leather is actually in good shape but the handles have just shrunk. They are new 25 year old knives that have been stored in the boxes so no dirt and grime. I don’t think a cleanup is in order, just looking to get some treatment on them. I’m hoping to bring them back without any majo...

Stacked leather shrinkage
I have a couple of fixed blades with stacked leather handles with enough shrinkage that it creates enough play in the guard to be noticeable. Anyone have any advice on getting some treatment on the leather. What should I use? Can I get enough treatment on them to expand the leather back? Any suggest...

Case XX Elephant Toenail
Need some help! Looking for a 65 up through the 70’s Toenail in bone or stag. Is there such a critter? Anyone know of one, would consider older, must be like new or not interested. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Tater

Re: Shapleigh Diamond Edge #S233 Easy Open Jack
I have one of these in original condition, not quite as used, the blades are probably 80% or better. Original green bone handles, no chips or cracks, strong snap both blades open and close. Any idea of what it may be worth? Thanks Tater

Re: Old Knives
tallguy606, I'm with you, nothing I'd rather do than rescue old knives. I just had never encountered knives of this condition due to storage. They are a challenge, oil turns tar and pocket lint turns to asphalt. Thanks Tater

Old Knives
Need some help, so I bought an old knife collection that had been in storage for 30 plus years, nothing newer than the 70's. They were heavily oiled before being put into storage, pocket lint and all. The knives are all in excellent plus condition but I can't for the life of me get all the gunk out ...

Anybody know if a Cheetah would appear to have a weak snap because of the swing guard? I've never had one before and picke up a 77 blue scroll which seems a little lazy. Thanks Tater

Re: To clean or not to clean
espn77, I don't think my new found cleaning method is going to help that old whittler, sad story. I don't even think I've ever dug one up that looked worse than that. Looks like there is a hole completely through one of the blades, I'm sorry, RIP. Tater

Re: To clean or not to clean
Thanks for all the input guys, I cleaned it! An old green bone well used Robeson Sure Edge Pocketeze split back whittler and it looks great. Used the #2 pencil some 2000 grit emery cloth and a little polishing paste "Metal Glo" with an old cotton T shirt. Cleaned up beautifully and if I co...

Re: To clean or not to clean
Dave, can you tell me about using a #2 pencil, I wouldn't use a buffer, I see them advertised on eBay and elsewhwere as near mint but I can always tell. I know if you painstakingly use emery cloth up to 1500-2000 grit you can probably get a near mirror shine on an old blade. thanks Tater

To clean or not to clean
If I have a knife that is less than mint, corrosion, dings, tarnish, old dirt grease or oil, pocket lint etc, and I'd like it to be more pleasing to the eye then why not clean it, it's not mint, never gonna be mint again and I'd like it to look better. Even if I were to sell it and disclose the fact...
