Re: Care to see some really old Sheffield knives, anyone?
I just got it yesterday... Started my research here as I always do. Found this Sheffield thread at the top of the list. I believe the scales may be actual ivory. I don't want to do any more damage trying to find out. Given the age and where it's from ... Britain certainly had access to lots of Asian...

Re: Care to see some really old Sheffield knives, anyone?
I just acquired a very old knife made in Sheffield.
Goins says it's pre civil war.
The scales are in pretty rough shape but the knife functions quite well for being 160+ years old.

I appreciate everyone's input.
I was pretty certain it was a good knife but better safe than sorry.

Re: India Stag with a short line stamp
You are exactly correct. I am "N" deficient on this one.Edit - sorry, looks like I was typing my post when you made your second post. IIRC Camillus called it “Indian Stag” (Indian, with an “n”, not India) which is Delrin imitation stag.

Re: India Stag with a short line stamp
It is an early 70's India Stag (styled Delrin) Pattern 89 It came to me as NOS in the box. There is still a bit factory grease on the knife. Everything looks as new to my eye. But that stamp ??? I have read that the 89 was not produced for a long time & re-introduced in 1972. My best guess is th...

India Stag with a short line stamp
Did I get a faked knife ?
I don't see anything about this knife that would suggest it's a fake but the stamp worries me...
I was getting ready to put it up on the Bay & thought I had better ask first.
Any thoughts ?

Re: Camillus Ephemera
Per your request. Cover - Front & Back. Based on the Factory Picture, I would date this catalog to no later than 1972. All the cars I can see are definitely late 60's but the distinctive gold AMC gremlin parked all by itself helps the dating. The Gremlin was not sold until 1970. CmCat-1c.jpg CmC...

Re: Camillus Ephemera
I found a cool Counter Sales Display last year.
There was an old catalog inside which listed this model display as #85.
I wish I could buy all the knives that are listed on the display at those sticker prices.

Re: Looking for a knife with specific tool set
Are you looking for this knife for a specific reason ?
A gift or a every day use knife ?
If you just need one to use & are not picky about brand / collectability then ....
Look at the Rough Rider Camp Knife with bone scales.
Here is a pic I "found" from the Interwebs

Re: Real Winchester or Not Real ?
I do appreciate all the info. My concerns about this knife were likely then based on my romanticized version of the the industry. I have always held a bit of belief that the US did not begin to cheapen all manufactured products until after the 1940's Not just knifes but almost everything. Somewhere ...

Real Winchester or Not Real ?
I have come across a old beat up knife that I was going to put on the Bay. However I question just how old it is or if it's really a 1930s Winchester knife. Please review these pictures & chime in with your ideas. It is a thin jack knife with tip bolsters. Brass liners with the center liner cuto...

Dale I am pleased you can find something of interest and or usable in the Box. Had I drawn another name I would likely not have sent quite that many knives. Your fine reputation as a master mechanic is why I decided to fill the box as much as I could. You just never know when somebody may ask you to...

OH My
I drew the Orvet
I gotta re-think the whole approach now.
I have a box around here someplace with some knives that could have a chance to live again in the hands of such a master mechanic.
Your package should go out tomorrow morning.

Re: Bluegrass Barlow frames wanted
I have one I was saving for the upcoming POS swap.
It has aluminium scales / Bluegrass inside the oval on both of the bolsters
Looks like a 5724 is stamped on 1 blade.
Pretty rough.
Yours if you want it.

Excellent news I am greatly appreciative of answers & expertise. I had poured over the old catalog PDF files & did find the #40 pattern but as an Electrician Knife. Also bdev had one pictured in an old post. I never use any of the books as a real price guide.... Knives from all makers are in...
