Hi Roland, yes that appears to be a relay/transformer in one unit. You can see the transformer on the top of the relay, it also has the thermostat current rating on the relay. Pete

I would agree that it doesn't show any obvious signs of being tampered with, but that big ol' shiny spear blade doesn't seem to fit the patina when compared to the rest of the knife. I picked these up at a gun show this morning for a song. Quite interesting so far.

Zzy the W49 is a date stamp A the W46 has no date stamp only Western USA.

Treefarmer the stamp reads made in Sheffield England, there is no maker on the stamp. Other than the wear on the main blade it is a well put together knife with good snap.

I also grabbed these ones at a flea market. Boker, schrade walden camillus, and a sheffield with no makers name on it.

As the others have said it is likely homemade. The first thing I would do with a knife like the is see if a file skates off of the blade to test if it is hardened properly. If it is I would sharpen it as it would make a good garage/yard/camp knife.
