Re: Help with Thermostat and Relay
Hi Roland, yes that appears to be a relay/transformer in one unit. You can see the transformer on the top of the relay, it also has the thermostat current rating on the relay. Pete

Not to mention that the knife is illegal here in Canada Zoogirl, but I wouldn't be too worried about that if it was just going home into a collection. It is a nice knife though.

Re: Knife question
I would agree that it doesn't show any obvious signs of being tampered with, but that big ol' shiny spear blade doesn't seem to fit the patina when compared to the rest of the knife. Does it have the same tang stamp as the other blade? The shiny main blade is what I first noticed as well. I didn't ...

Zzy the W49 is a date stamp A the W46 has no date stamp only Western USA.
Thanks sunknife.
Treefarmer the stamp reads made in Sheffield England, there is no maker on the stamp. Other than the wear on the main blade it is a well put together knife with good snap.

Re: Sharpening ? stones or Razor Sharp system
Dale I tend to agree with you about the heat build up, I sharpened many knives without using the mister bottle and they never even got warm lot alone hot. A while ago I read a thread about sharpening on a belt sander and someone pointed out that even though you can't feel the blade getting warm it i...

Re: Sharpening ? stones or Razor Sharp system
I know most of you guys don't like power sharpeners but I use this. Trizac belts from 240-2200 grit, then 3 leather stroping belts with 3.5,1.5 and .5 micron diamond paste. Once I sharpen a knife with the belts I can keep it sharp a long time using only the strops. This sander being belt driven as o...

Re: Flea Market Find
As the others have said it is likely homemade. The first thing I would do with a knife like the is see if a file skates off of the blade to test if it is hardened properly. If it is I would sharpen it as it would make a good garage/yard/camp knife.

I read that the reason robertson screws were never available in the USA was because Henry Ford wanted to buy the patent of off Robertson. Robertson declined the offer and Ford said that you will never sell them in the US. Not 100% sure if this is true but I have read that on more than one occasion. ...
