Re: What reason for rope blade shape?
For the record, I was never in the military so I never researhed how the navy defined words or their somtimes specialized vocabulary. I'd guess the majority of sailors have never had to think about how they'd do things if "large cannons" were being fired at them. Todays big news story is a...

Re: What's Wrong With This Picture
I wonder what year it was made. While its collector value today is zip, the modifications may have been done while it was not significanty different than Cheetahs available in stores everywhere. If it turned a Cheetah its owner could not open into a knife that was useful for the rest of their lifeti...

Re: 2024 Case XX razor knife
How much value it loses depends on how you take care of it. If you cary it mixed in with coins and keys it is going to get scratched and scuffed. If you sharpen it with relatively coarse gray hardware store stones or worse use an electric sharpener the metal loss is going to show. Give it a dedicate...

Re: What reason for rope blade shape?
While working on a ship I was assigned the job of making new moring lines out of 4" diameter three strand nylon line. Measure then cut to length then splice eyes in both ends. My sharp Case Folding Hunter cut it easily with a back and forth motion over a wood board. Old fashioned manila line cu...

Re: My newest Queen
Q, There must be a seat left on the barge for my favorite ACSB PH-D2 knife, the 4 1/4" (closed) Stockman. My memory of Queen pattern numbers has faded but I think 49 or 50. There's also a single blade Case 6165 size Folding Hunter in ACSB PH-D2. IIRC the single bladers had a different pattern n...

Re: Case shield questions
It's a fairly common pattern from 2008 with enough pocket scratchs and blade scratches to take it out of collector condition so the seller might have intended to sell it wth his users. For you that means 100% of the utility of a like new one but with the freedom to toss it in with your pocket change...

Re: Blade pan question
Your wording could be better. Simple tool steels like 1085 and 1095 blade alloys are first heated very hot then quenched making them too hard and brittle. The pan got its first X so it would be obvious only that first step was done. In the second step, tempering, the pan is heated to a lower tempera...

Re: numbered editions
First, I must warn you that I've never met or read about another collector dumb enough to do the things I've done or bid on serialized knives like I did. Second, I do not give a hoot how low or high a serial number is in its series unless its serial number matches the number on knives I already own....

If it was made by Case rather than being a Queen made Case Classic then the only decade consistent with what kenny7478 posted and the AAPK reference section is 2020 - 2029. The pattern number refernce section writes "These knives [pattern 72] were introduced and had already been discontinued pr...

I quoted a fragment only to get your attention. Please post a picture of the RR trapper in the bottom of your picture and its RR item number. It looks like it has a US flag and a bald eagles head. I presume it's 4" closed.

Re: Rough Riders!
tvic, There is no reason for your Outdoorsman/acorn Trapper's clip blade to have stiffer than soft snap. Firmer snap on its slip joint spey blade keeps it from colaspsing across your fingers. That safety is more than provided by the clip blades back lock. The springs for its clip point need only be ...

Re: Rough Riders!
I like the acorn. It looks right on side covers that are more or less wood colored. Also, while frivolus, the lock is classy. Am I correct guessing that it's shorter than a standard 4 1/8" Case 54 Trapper?

I'd love to see pictures of your dad's four blade Folding Hunter. They're scarce, old and not within my budget. Rather than being burried at the end of this thread it deserves its own thread. Maybe by this time next week I'll remember one but offhand I can't think of another folding knife that takes...

..... In hind sight their original owners would have gotten more value out of them by using them. Re: Help - Winchester Knives Tarnish Too Quickly
I do not know noth'in, or as the accused testifed in court, to the best of my knowledge I do not recall anything. However, I noticed atmarketing99's bolsters are oxidising quickly to rust color but he does not mention his blades rusting. Absent stainless blades no blade corrosion contradicts cellulo...

Those sure look like Camillus made knives. I have a small collection of them. USA should be in the faux Remington tang stamp. Also, if the papers are still in the boxes, they will instruct you to contact Camillus for warranty repair. Many of them were sold as collector items and a high percentage of...

At least the mark side does have great looking red stag. Case makes their stag red by dying it. Case has dyed stag odd colors in the past but, as far as I know, only dyes it red and black now. I own a Blue Stag 5318. Despite new knives with dyed stag being less expensive than knives with burnt stag,...

If my memory is good Changers were introduced in 1987 and the thin blades lasted a couple years. All ...

Re: RRR knives
I've been watching for someone to post about the newer RRR knives. Old Folder was collecting the RRR series but hasn't posted about them in a long time. Re: RRR knives
[...] How do you RRR guys like this one? I do not like the RRR035. Not much sets it apart from the zillions of one hand opening pocket clip knives. It's handle is too square cornered and the side that lacks a cover is ugly. Its blade does not have a stylish shape. Oh well, I'm sure someone will see...

Re: "First Production Run" question
Mumbleypeg's knowledge of older Case knives deserves great respect but he doesn't focus on Case's often colorful newer knives and admits the etch would not add value were he buying something similar. Since 1970 Case has etched this knife is a collectors' treasue, worded different ways, on a zillion ...

The desk droor in front of me will slide in further than flush leaving a small shelf that I rest the end of a ruler on. I lay the pocket knife on the ruler with an end touching the droor and look straight down at the end near my belly. I use a ruler on which the first 1/16" line actually is 1/1...

Without a measurement we trust we still have the pull. [...] The 02 was [...] never made with long pull. [...] The AAPK reference section's coverage of modern knives could be more complete as well. For example, the Case lockback with interchangable blades that's been on the market since the late 198...
