Re: What is Your Latest Old Camillus? (pre-1960)

I'm getting ready to sell my Camillus collection and I thought it would be nice to post a picture of it beforehand, so, here it is. I have over 200 and I think that most of them are pictured here, at least the best ones:

Re: Unique Blish Mize Silliman HDWE 3 blade Cattleman knife

Here is a similar knife, at least as far as the scalloped bolsters are concerned. It's a Remington and I think Remington produced quite a few knives with bolsters similar to this. I think that Remington had some sort of relationship with Utica Cutlery and I have seen quite a few Utica knives with fa...

Re: old knife

Could be a 9233, a small serpentine pen knife, 2 5/8" in length. You just might not see the final "3" in 9233. Can't think of any Case pocket knife pattern with only 3 digits, probably is one, but I can't think of it.

Re: Old Keen Kutter Knives

Keen Kutter pattern numbers are pretty cryptic. The number you gave appears to be one that was used in the Walden era, that is, when Walden Knife Co. or its predecessors were making the knives, say prior to the Winchester Simmons split. With these knives the first digit often denotes the number of b...

Re: This little Queen knife

Whenever I see the term "half whittler" it makes me think of a knife that is built on a common whittler frame with just one blade in the small end. The thing that makes it a half whittler for me is that the small blade, unlike a normal pen knife, has a "catch bit" that is used to...

Re: Handle pins

It seems that the old time cutlers valued light weight over everything, since they saw a pocket knife as a tool that would always be in your pocket. I own quite a few older Case stag handled knives and it seems to me the older the knife the thinner the stag, I have several with almost paper thin sta...

Probably an Imperial (Hammer Brand, same thing), the sort of cut off top of the spear is often seen on Imperial made knives. Here are a couple of examples, an IKCo marked and an Imperial:

I doubt that Ulster used bone on their handles much past the '60's, My guess would be the '50's or before.

Re: Stockman Knives

Here's an old Imperial I sold a few years ago. This knife has solid nickel silver bolsters and shield, brass liners, and beautiful old handles, I think it was made in the 1930's. The reputation of Imperial declined when they switched to manufacture of the shell handled knives but these older ones ar...

Re: Case XX 6347 HP Question

The "HP" describes the type of secondary blades the knife has. In this case the "H" is for sheepfoot and the "P" is for the spey. The other abbreviations used on Case knives are "E" for pen and "U" for punch. You'll probably notice that none of the a...

Re: Why is 32 on a Utica knife?

I've seen this number 32 or 31 stamped on quite a few Utica made knives including at least a Seneca and also on a few Challenge Cutlery knives. It doesn't seem to be confined to a single pattern, I've never been able to come up with a logical explanation.

Re: Muskrat

You can see from the picture looking down into the well of the knife with the blades closed that the blades are well short of the mark, that accounts for the slimmer profile, in my opinion. Down at least 10%, especially the front blade. Still a nice old knife, probably cleaned. JMO

Re: Old and Obscure Brands

Here is a brand I've never seen before, Pioneer Cutlery. The knife's quality looks to be about the same as an Ulster Knife Co. The only references I could find were some bankruptcy filings from 1924 and a one line entry in Goins' for 1926. The knife still snaps after a hundred years and the handles ...

Re: Camillus pocketknife I can’t identify

I've collected Camillus knives for quite a while and have about 200 of them. Of these, I count about 100 pre war knives. Of these only about 10 have any pattern number. No doubt Camillus produced hundreds of pocket knife patterns. After the war they reduced the number of patterns to about a hundred ...

I can't read the stamp, but if it is IKCO inside the diamond, it is an Imperial. IKCO stands for Imperial Knife COmpany. Definitely looks like an Imperial.
