Re: How Could I Resist for $20
In what little I read online, I did see a reference to LF&C, but there was such a small amount of info available, I could not determine how the two were connected. Any thoughts on the connection? With the sheath being stamped the way it is, that might be a clue about age. You or someone else mig...

How Could I Resist for $20
I was in an antique store in Thomasville, Ga., and found this 8” Universal. I had never heard of a Universal brand, and there is not much available online. Blade is stamped Universal No. 3204. Anyone know the history of this brand, possible date of this knife? But, for $20, it’s got a home. Also in ...

Re: Any Clue What This Is? Age? Origin?
I posted the same info on the U.S. Militaria Forum, hoping that one of those guys might have an idea of its origin. A couple of folks thought it could have been a WWII bring-back from North Africa or from one of the Pacific Islands. They also thought that maybe the blade was made from a leaf spring....

Re: Any Clue What This Is? Age? Origin?
I’ve looked all over to see if maker put his initials on it, I can’t see any. Lots of pitting. I like the shape of the blade, looks like maker had a dagger in mind.

Your Favorite WWII Knife
I check this forum from time to time, and there is not much discussion about military knives. And that is a shame. So, in order to initiate discussion about military knives, with some photos, what is your favorite WWII knife? My favorite is the USM3. Why, because it is so well made, and could be use...

Nice Find
We all like to find that fabulous rare knife, but sometimes finding that one unique item you’ve been looking for for years, feels pretty good as well. I’ve had this British Southern & Richardson WWII knife for years and could never find a sheath. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, I gave up the sea...

Not a Collector, But…
Today, I bought the only Colonial I own, a Fishing Knife for the grand total of $15. And I was as thrilled to pick up that knife as any knife I own, so I oiled it and put it in my small display case along with a few other knives that I’ve picked up over the years. That got me to wondering how many k...

My Only Colonial
I believe this is the first Colonial I’ve ever bought, and it has lots of character. I scrolled through the 38 Colonial pages and I didn’t see this one posted. So here it is. Anyone care to educate me about it’s age? Thanks.

OSS Stiletto - Lucky Find
I was recently in a shop that calls itself an “antique” shop, but in reality, it’s one of those places that rents booths for yard sale type items. While my wife was checking out, I was waiting by the front door, when I happened to glance inside this display case. The case top was covered in magazine...

Re: Taylor Eye Witness Fighting knife
I have what looks like the same knife made by Southern & Richardson, Sheffield, England. I read somewhere that these knives were called “D-Day” knives (don’t remember where I read that) but that they were bought commercially in England by troops headed for the invasion. Your knife looks to be in...

What is History of Case Straight Guard M3?
I just picked up a Case straight guard M3. The knife is in excellent shape, doesn’t appear sharpened since manufactured. What is the history of these knives? WWII Military issue or commercially sold? How rare are these knives?

Re: Named WWII Knife - Bombardier 15th AAF
Here’s his obituary and it’s also sort of sad. He was apparently in college studying engineering at the University of Arkansas, but must not have finished. The guy I bought the stuff from went to his house where the estate sale was held, and he told me the house was very dated, all 1960 appliances, ...

Re: Named WWII Knife - Bombardier 15th AAF
I double checked his obituary and it said he flew 34 missions, taking flack on every mission. It added that he never flew commercially after the war because he felt he had used up all his luck. You’re right about the unknown maker of that particular knife, I’ve tried to identify the maker with no lu...

Re: Named WWII Knife - Bombardier 15th AAF
It is sad, the guy was a hero. The reason I couldn’t let his stuff get split up. I just took a photo of a poem that was typed on onion skin paper that came with the collection. Talking about something that reflects the emotions of bomber crews during WWII: 5DD28851-1AAE-4C85-95B8-55D08326DE08.jpeg

Re: Named WWII Knife - Bombardier 15th AAF
I was on eBay and saw a set of WWII spotter cards that I bought. I contacted the seller to see if he knew who owned the cards and he did, and added that he owned several other items that he bought from LT. Pence’s estate sale. Pence died in 2019, he’d never been married, no kids, no immediate family...

Named WWII Knife - Bombardier 15th AAF
This is the knife and a few other items belonging to LT. James A. Pence, Bombardier, 777th Bomb Squadron, 15th AAF, who flew 35 missions in Italy during WWII.
