Re: Whats your newest addition to your Buck family and why?

My new Buck 500 with it's second cousin. I've wanted one for a while so ordered it from Copper & Clad. I gotta say I'm not really impressed. I'm used to a 110 or 112 so the 500 seems a bit less sturdy? I know it's not but that's the impression it gives me. It is nicely finished so I'll use it fo...

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Thanks all! I enjoy black powder pistols (and rifles). They make up for the bulk of my shooting. I cast my own projectiles and have a good stock of 777, Pyrodex and black powder. I've been working through the subs to shoot it all up so I only have to keep the black on hand. I've found that once you ...

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Here's my new toy. Picked it up at Cabelas for $289. Fit & finish are good. It's a 2021 Pietta. They must be shipping again because I'd heard the Italian factories were hit hard by Covid.
It's an 1858 Remington Sheriff's model with 5 1/2 in barrel in .44 cal.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Went into an Orschelin store to pick up fence repair stuff and low & behold! Look what they had for $4.50 a box! Not the best price and a limit of 2 boxes, but it's a good sign!

How fun! I too love black powder shooting. There's something about it that slows you down. Probably because you can't cram bullets and blast!

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

It's a new design with an alloy frame, steel barrel and cylinder and all MIM internals. It's offered in fixed sight only and has a Cerakote spray on finish. It's pretty much a utility gun.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Steve, it does have a cerakote finish but the cylinder is blued. It' matte but pleasing. It looks to be evenly applied. I've never owned a coated gun so it'll be interesting to see how it holds up. It's a Ruger after all so I think it'll be good.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Yes he will! A friend has one and I was impressed with the build for an inexpensive revolver. It's just a plinker but it's minute of pop can at ten yards. That's all we need! I got him a Savage Rascal single shot a couple of years ago and last week he told me that he thinks he needs a bigger rifle! ...

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Thanks all. It is a striking revolver. I've had an 1860 Army on order since the first of January but who knows when it'll arrive. The Italian factories have been hit hard by Covid so there's a shortage of BP supplies now! On another subject. I had to fill out a Cabelas version of form 4473 to purcha...

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Here's my new pistol! Pietta 1851 Navy in .36 caliber. I got it at Cabelas for under $300. I've got powder, balls and a bullet mold so I'm set to shoot when it warms up. It's a 2020 build, so a new one since they switched to CNC machinery. I'm very impressed with the first and finish. With all the s...

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Thanks gentleman! Steve...a permit for a black powder revolver? I'm sorry to hear that! I just ordered one last week and it'll be delivered to my house! The ATF doesn't classify them as guns but rather antiques wether they are old or new. I guess it depends on the jurisdiction you live in.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Thanks Wade! Since the recent shortages I've been shooting them more because can cast my own balls and still get powder and caps for them. I've been shooting them since the 70's and have hunted deer ( successfully) with them. They are kind of addicting though... I've got an 1860 Army revolver on ord...

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Sorry for the poor cellphone pictures bit it's dreary in Kansas! An almost complete project a 1977 Invest Arms .54 cal percussion rifle I traded for a while back. It was in poor shape so a redo was in order. I browned the barrel, swapped the adjustable sights for fixed, glass beded the tang and stri...

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

I figured that by the time I put powder & ball down the barrel I'll have an inch of barrel left to stabilize the ball. Accurate to two feet? It'll be fun!

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

The ultimate CCW pistol. A CVA kit gun from the late 60's or early 70's. This was given to me by a friend who said he and his Dad put it together and shot it once. It's a .45 so I'm gonna try it out with a .440 patched round ball and 10 grains of 3F powder. Should be a fun fireball. I'm expecting no...

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Good job on that Russian Mike. I love broken guns, or people who take them apart and can't figure out how to get them back together. I've gotten a S&W M10, a Mossberg 500, Winchester M94 like that.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

I'm impressed with it. Little & light and easy to carry. Weighs about 12 ounces so it's easy to stick in a pocket. I just shot it at 3 & 7 yards and it's soda can accurate at that range. Just glad I've got lots of ammo for it.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff

They're selling .22 for $10 for a box of 50 here! I traded 4 bricks for it. I got it for $20 a brick in 2011. Glad I stocked up. Strange days we're in!
