Re: Lightning OTF

I was impressed with mine, didn't think it would last very long...that was about 6 years ago and its still going strong. I'd been looking for a knife that I could open and close with gloves on. I carry it in a side pocket on bibs and carpenter jeans, easy to get and deploy. Its a rough use knife, do...

Re: Stag Problem

Their warranty states they stand behind materials and workmanship, then they say no warranty on natural materials if the knife has been used and abused. As pointed out knife is new and has never been used, abit of double talk..JMO The only purpose for this post was to try and determine what caused i...

Re: Is your EDC a GEC?

Thank's QS...very nice Ivoryman and I thought I had a problem picking out one to carry.. :) ..but thats a good one to have. One thing I've noticed on their blade's is the brushed finish can develop carbon spots and little squiggly's, the courser the finish the worse it gets if not addressed. The bri...

Re: Is your EDC a GEC?

Been packing and using GEC's for a while, I don't baby them, they've been wet, blooded, slimed and about anything else you can think of and they just keep coming back for more. The 23 was rehandled in Desert Ironwood, it get carried in a sheath. The 72's and 73"s seem to be my favorite's and th...

Re: Stag Problem

Pleased don't think I'm bashing GEC, I've bought their knives since 2007 and have more than one. I thought they would be a bit more helpful and friendly in fixing the problem. I have lost some respect for them, anyway time to move on. Herb I like your idea, thats something I could handle, I do have ...

Re: Stag Problem

Contacted GEC and sent some pictures, their reply was they do not warranty natural materials. They offered to clean and soak to try slowing it down, for 15.00. They won't say what that will accomplish. Well this is not the outcome I'd hoped for and I'm not real happy, so now I've got another EDC... ...

Re: Stag Problem

Thank's for the replys, its just in one area but may be spreading along the handle on one side. May have been some pith left on that one. Ren wax is the only thing I'll use, no mineral oil. Will talk to GEC and see if they can fix it.

Stag Problem

While helping a friend sort through knives we came across this GEC. I've never seen anything like this, knife has been in tube and stored in a constant temperature. What was left of the stag in that area was crumbly and dry. Could there have been a reaction between stag and brass or was the stag not...

Bighomer the quail left years ago, the few coveys that are around we've decided not to hunt, just go to the quail ranch, semi wild is better than nothing.
QS a o/u has been my shooter for years, I've not hunted with a s/s for 30 years...this will interesting...

Re: ? About older Camillus

Cool looking knife, I like large single blades. From the pics it looks good to me, the shield is unique and I don't remember seeing one. Could be a early Sword Brand, has a good sized blade but the pull looks a bit forward, reminds me of a scout blade. There are some good knife mechanic's so maybe i...

Thanks John, its been a while... ::handshake::

CarMan there are some excellent books by Cole, Silvey and more. Plus a wealth of information here on AAPK on Western knives,
so I feel confident that it is from WW2.

Re: Wilbert Cutlery

Very nice old knives being shown.. ::tu::..just don't see many Wilbert's these days. I'd like to add this Sunfish to the lot, have no idea who made it but its tight and snappy and some pretty unique worn groove handles. Has iron bolsters with brass liners and pins, got very sharp with little effort ...

Nice one.. ::tu:: ..another pattern you don't see many of with bone. I had a yellow handled one years ago made in the 70's.
It's like the muskrats, did they make them pre-war ? Not sure the time frame on this add but your knife is on it.

Thanks guys, I'm happy with it, but always looking for one a little nicer...bet I'm not the only one...

Got a question, did Camillus make a Muskrat patter prior to WW2...I'd love to see a pic of one.
