Eagle knife

I made this knife and leather sheath up as a gift. It was an experience to make. Eagle head is carved from brass, Forged guard with brass for talons. A friend made the damascus billet and I forged it to shape. The sheath is lined and done with a eagle head carving and feather overlays obviously dyed...

Re: Basket Case

All fair questions. The pins and washers you can purchase on Etsy or eBay. Just look for straight razor pins or straight razor repair kit. There are sets of pre cut and ready to use scales on both sites also. Just search for straight razor scales. If I am going for a custom color or custom scales, ...

Re: A spotted sheath

Always like to see new looks and ways of doing things! Curios do the tabs that hold the spots hit the knife at all inside the sheath or did you line it ? Ross I did not line the sheath so the tabs can certainly touch the blade. On this particular project was not too concerned with that. Actually do...

Night and Day Knife and sheath

Forged out of 1078 Hex stock, antler handle with a sun and moon carving. Matched the leather sheath with a similar carving. Runs 9 inches overall and 3.5 inch blade. Fun project.

Night and day

Forged out a blade and decided to do some carving on the crown end. Did a sun and moon combo and then decided to try and match that on a sheath.

Re: Oddity

I like the looks of it. I’d have to hold / use it to make a final judgement. The biggest thing with antler handles, is the indexing. The blade has to be in the right orientation when it is being held comfortably. I think you nailed it. Thank you and I agree antler handles have to be held and fiddle...

Re: Are there folks who want to learn more about leatherwork?

I am, especially what type of leathers work the best for small pouches and sheaths. I've been piddling around for quite a long time now making stuff in leather although it's pretty crude compared to some of the examples I've seen, still...I like the looks of a leather sheath over a nylon one any da...

Re: Basket Case

First and foremost that looks great! I am curious and have looked into restoration some over the years but what do you use for the pins and washers? Did you make the scales also or did you source them from another razor or buy them? Hope you dont mind the questions.

Re: Oddity

Instead of a sheath you should make a walking stick/sheath (a stick with a fitted slot in the top).Put that knife into the top of a gnarly staff and you'd look like a medieval knife wizzard. :) That's the vibe you were hoping for, er no? ::uc:: Well isnt that an interesting thought hmmm......honest...

Well this fell off my bench today. Got to make up a sheath yet and put a final edge on it. Forged hex stock 1078. Forked antler with wood ends and brass peened over. No clue what came over me with this handle. Surprising feels good in my hand at least. Thought I'd share , et the what the heck is tha...

Re: Couple Quick ones recently

I really like the sheath on the right. Bob Thanks Bob! Great work on both sheaths! They look sturdy, and favor some of the old original knife sheaths that I have. I have done a few with multiple rivets, similar to yours on the left, and some with only one, like yours on the right. I even did one wi...

Made a couple of really quick sheaths up for a customer. One was for a old Marbles fixed blade. Sometimes utilitarian is best!

Re: Last 2 off my bench

Ross, those sheaths are a work of art. I love the way you worked the metal into those sheaths and the leather work is fine as well. That copper one really speaks to me. It’s beautiful. The damascus on the top one is really nice too. I am by no means a knife critic and I have designed some myself ju...

Last 2 off my bench

These are the last 2 I finished up off my bench. Made the knives and the sheaths. The Bolsters are dovetailed. Steel is 01- stock removal. One has copper bolster and the other a double bolster damascus. Also made the sheaths and tried to match them up some with a damascus inlay and copper inlay. Alw...
