Re: Old Advertising & Premium Knives

Here are two old whiskey advertising knives from Sheffield. They both came from a New Jersey collection auctioned off last year. The first is by C. Ibberson & Co. for Johnnie Walker, born 1820 still going strong. The second is by John Watts for King George IV Whiskey. They both have really cool ...

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread

Thanks for the info, Mike. I'd be happy to post unofficial scout knives or this New York Knife pattern as I run across them. This is one I intend to eventually sell as I don't collect this type of knife. I do think it's important to document them before they move on to new owners. Just shoot me a PM...

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread

I thought I'd revive this thread with an unofficial Boy Scout Knife I can't document anywhere else. The blade is stamped with New York Knife's arm and hammer. The cap lifter is stamped, "New York, Knife Co., Walden." While the punch has "Pat. No. 701,878" stamped on it. The shiel...

Yeah, thought I’d document here for others who might be researching the same knife. I do so with many of my knives before selling them.

KA-BAR Sausage Knife with Stainless Handle

Found this one while sorting an estate lot from a New Jersey collection. I haven't seen this handle on a KA-BAR. Not that I've seen a lot of KA-BARs. It measures 4 5/8"

Re: What Was This Old Henkels Utility Knife Used For?

It would be a great help untying knots or possibly splicing rope. I think it was made for some specialized trade or work with its tool set.

Re: What Was This Old Henkels Utility Knife Used For?

You could really get it up there to thoroughly scrap out the sinuses with its length and bends. I think it might give me a headache though. ::hmm:: On a more serious note, there is a sharp pointy pick or awl beside it, and a heavier ream on the bottom with the little screw driver and small cork pull...

What Was This Old Henkels Utility Knife Used For?

I guess I'd call this old Henkels a multitool or utility knife, but hoping someone who knows more than me might share the proper name it. I'm also wondering about its age and use, particularly what the angular tool might have been used for. I figure it's some kind of pick or scraper, but what it's m...

Re: Trick Knife

I've run across several Imperial trick knives as I buy estate lots and sell what I don't keep, but here's one I haven't see before. It's stamped, Stainless, Sheffield England, with no maker mark. It's all stainless, has a very thin profile, and seems to be of sturdier construction than the usual one...

Re: The Venerable Old Barlow

Thank you, doglegg. Here is another nice old one that is on the smaller side, 3" closed. A W Wadsworth & Son, Germany with wood handles, full blades, and snap like a gator. Sadly the bail is long gone.

Re: The Venerable Old Barlow

Keeping with the theme of nice old users being posted, here is an interesting one I thought I'd document here before listing on that big auction site. It's stamped with a Beaver and the words BEAVER BRAND on the mark side, and F P MAY HDWE CO, GERMANY on the pile side. Goins lists Breaver Brand as d...

Re: Barlows does anyone else love them

Here's an old ONB Barlow, 1901-1913 according to Goins, with nicely jigged bone handle covers. The blades are kind of worn, but so would I be after 110 years.

Yale Brand. Goins lists it from 1930 - 1950. I couldn't find any other info about this mark.

Help Identifying This Knife

This knife came in an estate lot from a New Jersey collector. I'm wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what its use might have been. It has no markings and is really tight with strong snap. My first guess is some kind of military knife or a traveler's, hunter's, or soldier's mess knife. Any in...

Re: Cool Old Tools

An unusual (to me) tool that I could not leave behind. Does anyone know a use for this tool? This is just a guess and it’s hard to tell how large they are, but I believe those pliers may be a type of crimper for compressing links or rings. My grandfather had a similar tool on his turkey farm back i...

Re: Wilbert Cutlery

Thanks Harold, I could probably also do a tighter patch, but I think the primitive repair fits the knife. The blade shows years of use and some abuse, yet it still has great walk and talk along with an even edge. The cover, even with the ill fit patch and crack is stable. All together, I read it as ...
