Re: It's In The Mail
I need an inexpensive small, pocketable, grippy lockback with reasonable steel to carry and use around the garden and yard. Settled on a Klein Tools lightweight lockback with a 2 3/8" drop point blade, 58-59 Rockwell.

Re: Rough Riders!
OK RR experts. I need a single blade, no longer than 3.25 inches closed, carbon steel preferred. What is the most consistantly good RR that fits the bill?
Edit, it's probably obvious but I'm talking a folder.

No idea! Would have been around 68 years ago and I have trouble remembering last week. If I guessed it would probably have been from Woolworth or Sears.

Re: Roller Coasters.
In the 50`s I worked at an ammusement park, Revere Beach, MA. It had the typical wooden Cyclone style coaster and another called the Virginia Reel. The Reel was not a typical coaster in that the cars were round and free to rotate as they went around curves and there were lots of curves, it was a bla...

I have an Old Timer USA that has XX stamped into the tang, seems that was a common way to designate seconds. FIW, I have never discovered what made it a second. No pics, too much trouble.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
I have 2 Canoes. One is a RR with more manufacturing defects than a Yugo, POS I refuse to carry. The other is a Buck China with 420J2 blades, sharpens well but dulls so fast it's barely usable as a letter opener, Buck should be embarassed to put their name on it. These 2 have killed my desire for an...

I carry a Recruit in the standard red ABS plastic daily. Gets pretty beat up in my pocket so while I appreciate the beauty of those knives they are too fine for my normal carry.

Re: One unique piece What is it????
I don't think it has anything to do with sharpening. Based on the material appearance (some form of fiber), size and shape I think it's for turning stitched points like collars during clothing manufacture.

Re: PayPal: They have carte Blanche on your personal data
Just to let everone know, it's too late if you're using the internet for anything, have a credit card, bank account, telephone, shopper loyalty card, etc., etc. Going off the grid or using any cloaking browser or app not only is too late but they can't be trusted either. Best advice is to be cautiou...

It's 38F and clear here on the front range of the Rockies. Looks like a stretch of decent weather ahead, time to take the covers off the grill and smoker.

Re: Are Pocket Sharpeners Bad
I have a Victorinox pocket sharpener that consists of a medium ceramic rod on one end and fine ceramic pull through on the other. The medium rod is very good but the pull through will often produce a wire edge or burr if the blade is even slightly tilted in use. I use the Vic when I travel and stone...

I don't like the handles on Flexcuts at all, the blades are just OK. I had 2 of their knives, gave them away. They are starter knives in my opinion.

Re: Fan of sharpening steels
I use a fine steel to realign the edges of my utility kitchen knives, steels are not considered sharpening devices since they don't remove metal other than burr removal. I use a ceramic rod for my chef and meat processing knives, ceramic rods will sharpen since they remove metal. A couple of times a...

Don't bother waiting for a strop, just use a piece of cardboard on a flat surface and some wax based compound. I have never used anything other than a bench oil stone so I can't comment on the Lansky but if you think it's ready, strop away.

Re: Crazy asking prices
Sell for as much as you can get - Buy for as little as you have to pay: When those two extremes diverge enough the market will settle out. Since there is a finite amount of money available to most folks to buy unnecessary stuff, I suspect it will be the prices that back off. Until then buy it if ya ...

Re: Isn't there any decent Kitchen set Knives Out there
Old Hickory were a great deal even though they had no Chef's knife in their inventory. However, the last OH I bought, a slicing knife I think they called it, had a thinned down blade and skimpy scales which made it hard on my Arthritic hands, you could look for some older ones as suggested above. I ...

Re: fleabay issue - can't bid on an item due to seller restrictions
I don't know, maybe it's just my spiteful attitude but if a vendor told me without justification he/she didn't want my business I'd go elsewhere, permanently. I don't beg anyone to accept my money, especially a fleabay peddler.

A strop definitely; a decent quality medium SiO and fine ceramic stone as well, from there the strop with a quality abrasive will get you to a carving edge. I use powdered Aluminum Oxide and leather strops, others have great success with wax based abrasives and cardboard strops, I've even seen some ...

Re: Total Novice
The set you show will get you started in basic whittling, wood carving, but not spoon carving. Beavercraft tools are decent starter tools at a reasonable price, I have a couple that I use regularly. There are other Beavercraft sets that cover a broader range of carving tasks, you might look them all...

Re: any opinion on Rough Rider knives?
Yes bigshot, the Buck Canoe is made in China, that was the point of the comparison. The blade steel on the RR Canoe is a high carbon coated with titanium to minimize rusting, also eliminates the possibility of establishing a patina. In use cutting cardboard the Buck blade has outperformed the RR; th...

Re: any opinion on Rough Rider knives?
I really like the canoes and have been scanning eBay to see offerings and Rough Rider really shares the market offerings. Anyone know about their quality? I assume that they're made in China. I'll spare a repeat of my issues with my RR canoe and just give my impression of the knife. I have a Buck C...
