Re: Pens and Razors
A live edge bowl is one that has the bark left on the outside rim of the bowl. It is best achieved when the wood is cut during the winter months when the sap in the bottom of the tree. A natural edge bowl is one that the bark is missing on the top edge but the rough edge is left on it. Both make bea...

I now have mach 3 razors made out of deer antler and for the ladies, some made out of acrylic. I also have letter openers, bottle stoppers, pens of course and a few key chains. I hav...

Re: Wood Lathe
Should make some nice pens. I am also waiting on warmer weather to get back in the shop. Need to make a bunch of pens and some bowls as well. When I make pens in bunches I always number my blanks so that I can line up the wood grain when I turn them. I will number as follows, L1-U1 and so on, this l...

Re: Wood Lathe
Great job on the mallet and nice score on the wood cutoffs. A tip on the handle of the mallet, if you want the handle to butt up against the head of the mallet, just make a small undercut on the shoulder of the handle. I had to figure it out when I made a couple of finials for some lids for some box...

Nice job on the project. I used to make cedar hope chest years ago and I loved to take raw wood and turn it into something nice and useful. Now I just do it with a wood lathe.

Re: Advice needed for woodworking project
Great advice on this project, only thing that I would add is to buy 9 ply plywood and not 7 ply, reason being is because 9 ply has less pocket holes in it. Also basswood is a great wood for face framing, easy to stain or paint.

Re: Wood Lathe
Nice job on the tool handle and I love the live edge bowls. The best wood for live edge bowls is green cut wood that is cut in the winter when the sap is down in the wood, makes the bark stick better on the edge. When I make my tool handles, I buy 1 inch copper pipe couplings and cut them in half, m...
