Is solid Carbide drill bit the best for drilling larger pivot hole on the blade of a folding knife?
Also, do I use the exact same size bit to drill the hole for the pivot pin? That is if the pivot pin is 5mm, I get a 5mm drill bit?
Thanks

Looking for a pivot that is 0.235" diameter
I want to replace the pivot of my Steel Will folder knife, the existing diameter is 0.235" and 0.41" length. I have no luck finding this diameter. I can easily grind the length down if I get a longer length.
Anyone have suggestion where I can find that?
thanks

Anyway to loosen screws that have glue or locktight?
I just bought a new Browning knife, I tried to open it, EVERY single screw is stuck. I don't want to apply too much force as I only have one chance. If I slip and strip the screw, I have to drill it out. That would be bad. It has G10 scale, I afraid to use acetone or other stuffs to try to soften an...

Re: Modify a folding knife to use a bigger diameter pivot pin
I know, Like I said in the very first post, if I do it, it's just for the hell of it. I actually put one on the big vice, bend it side to side like prying motion with both hands to the point I rocked the whole bench that the vice bolted on. The knife survived with flying color. Like I describe, I h...

Re: Modify a folding knife to use a bigger diameter pivot pin
A weak point for what? Batoning a steel pole? Before you go through all that trouble why don't you try to see if you can make the pin fail in one of those knives? I'd think some other part of the knife would fail before the pin which would negate making the pin more robust. Of course if you just wa...

Re: Modify a folding knife to use a bigger diameter pivot pin
With all of this "stuff" you are trying, why not just build your own "Sherman Tank" of a knife from scratch?? Actually, I am starting to get use to flipping the Cold Steel type of folding knives. I have been practicing while watching tv on both hands. If I can get good at it, Co...

Re: Modify a folding knife to use a bigger diameter pivot pin
Thanks everyone for answering. Yes, I am the crazy one that talked about this knife before. I have not decided whether to do it or not, it's just one project that keep my mind going. I believe in getting into different things to keep my mind active from designing extreme high end hifi power amps, to...

Modify a folding knife to use a bigger diameter pivot pin
OK, I am CRAZY and have OCD. Please bare with me. I have a few of the same knives that I really like and it's cheap like dirt($13 each). Everything about the knife is very robust EXCEPT it uses a pivot pin that is only 0.2" diameter. I want to change to 0.25" diameter pivot pin. I already ...

Re: Look for knives with certain characteristics I want.
I received the Cold Steel Rajah III today. The blade is a little thinner than my liking, the base is 0.15", but the thickest part of the blade is only 0.14" and it's FULL FLAT GRIND, so majority of the blade is thinner than 0.14". BUT, one cannot argue with the video that the 220lbs g...

Re: Look for knives with certain characteristics I want.
Just throwing out another option, my dad bought a Case Kinzua and he's very happy with it. Granted he hasn't pried himself out of a car wreck with it, but might be something you could check out. Don't mean to be disrespectful, I am born cheap, this is too much for me. This is like drinking alcohol,...

Re: Look for knives with certain characteristics I want.
I just bought the Cold Steel Rajah III after seeing this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s8w4c9ZHVQ This is MY kind of knife. I don't care how ugly it looks. The guy is 220lbs!!! I only clamp the knife on a big vise, then bend it ( push and pull in prying motion) with both hands. I don't thi...

Re: Look for knives with certain characteristics I want.
I just want to show reason I consider Steel Will Warbot is about the best for my requirement. It's 3.5", 6.1oz, you can see there is no thinning out at the pivot area. The blade is at full thickness of 0.16" as circled by GREEN color. Notice the pivot to the tip of the liner lock in RED is...

Re: Look for knives with certain characteristics I want.
I bought back the Cold Steel SR1 tanto, a Browning $20 and one more Steel Will Warbot all in very good price. I think it's the end of the road. Cold Steel SR1 is 6.9oz and 5.4" closed length. I guess I have to try harder to get use to it!!! The next might be Cold Steel Rajah 3. I might get it ...

Re: Look for knives with certain characteristics I want.
Would the PMP Grizzly suit your needs? I don’t know much about it but the specs say the blade is .254 inches thick. It ain’t cheap though. WOW, that's heavy, 11oz!!! That's a strong knife alright. Let us know if you find something. ::tu:: I am not holding out much hope, it's only out of desperation...

Re: Look for knives with certain characteristics I want.
I was going to suggest this Medford MKT Praetorian Genesis T Galaxy, but at 7.3 oz it's also a bit too heavy. This Medford Praetorian Genesis T Knife is a bulldog of an EDC that features a 3.3 inch Tanto point blade made of premium S35VN stainless steel, .190 inch thick, with tumbled finish, dual s...

Re: Look for knives with certain characteristics I want.
Personally, I don't know how anyone can comfortably carry a 6 oz knife in a pocket ...in a belt sheath maybe, but that seems like an awful lot of weight inside a pocket ::hmm:: Since this is the only tool you carry but you want to be useful for a variety of emergency situations, it seems to me that...

Re: Look for knives with certain characteristics I want.
Thanks for the suggestion from everyone. Thing is like I said, self defense is part of the EDC. So it has to be a real knife. Also, I did stressed about the importance of the long flipper tap or equivalent for protecting the hand when thrusting. That is a must. I am surprised so many knives don't ha...

My EDC is this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09G2FNM5C/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_2?smid=A3KWTOBYJBR9AN&th=1 It is a cheap knife, but I look at it scientifically rather than sentimental value. Also, I have to do work on it to make it good. I pick this because it is strong inside out which ...

Re: Look for knives with certain characteristics I want.
You seem determined to find a knife suitable for use as a pry bar. Knives are made for cutting, not prying. Harbor freight has all sizes of pry bars, some small enough to fit is a pocket, certainly into a small bug-out bag. Ken This is for carrying in my pocket when I go to restaurants, parties and...

Sometimes I think you are messing with us :D What DO you use your knives for?? ::handshake:: Not messing around here. I did a lot of searching and can't find it. I know it's strange the things I want. I carry for self defense and for survival in city. Most likely is car accident that I need to cut ...
