Re: Question about tightening the guard/knob on fixed blade knife

I agree with Swedgehead, EXCEPT shortening the nut will not help; it will only make things worse. If necessary, you can counterbore the bottom of the nut to clear the shoulder of the tang at the bottom of the threads, but then the end of the tang will also protrude farther above the top of the nut....

Re: Question about tightening the guard/knob on fixed blade knife

Those are pretty common. You can improvise a tool to safely tighten and loosen/remove the nut without damage (bending and forking an old screwdriver to have 2 prongs is one way). But the tang itself also has a shoulder stop built-in, so sometimes when the handle material (especially leather discs) s...

To save a trip, nail polish remover if you already have it, is a lighter weight solvent than MEC too. Could try that and the same method.

Very cool, early Marble's Arms too.
I like old pieces like this. I am into antique pocket watches too and occasionally an old factory doc surfaces, really brings in the sense of History.
Nice find !

Re: Need help identifying aMarbles fixed blade please

Yea, thats a good one there. The short blade with a fuller, the single guard, and that pommel - very interesting. The vintage Ideal model had the fuller and a dual guard (top and bottom), but this one has a shorter blade. I think the newer Marble's series had a sportman or sport or something with a ...

Re: How can I fix this tang nut on G.C. Co hunting knife? Or, find another?

Others mentioned this too, but its about finding the right diameter brass round. If its common like 1/2", 3/8ths, .375 and others in mm's then you just buy the brass round stock for $5-10, cut off a slice, drill, tap and groove. Sounds easy but takes tools, you already seem to like to tinker an...

Have to agree with all of this. Its pretty typical to see minimal descriptions, and sadly many that say "contact me for more info" , don't respond... thats the nature of the beast I suppose. Sometimes still you see these large lots going for a good chunk of change, meaning someone spotted ...

Re: I'd like to but, then return....

playing devil's advocate a bit but how would you desribe a collection of 18 knives ? From my observations most sellers would say "here are some knives, look at pics for desription". AI or not, it's not untrue maybe just not very authentic. Does lose something without a reference to the lis...

Re: rare folding axe question

That was Webster Marbles' first business. He opened the Gladstone Manufacturing Co in a shed behind his house in 1892. He started making his famous gunsights there. In 1893 he developed that folding axe but had to close the business in that same year due to the economic depression that started that...

Re: AKC Or Not?

All good talking about AKCs, but back on topic, maybe this helps. In the AAPK Store you have this category. When you click into it, it is not a listing of AKC knives. Should possibly just be labeled Italian Autos. That was the intent of OPs original post. Really not a big deal but there ya go. AKC.J...

Re: AKC Or Not?

Probably a topic for admins, but i think this just boils down to the category being improperly labeled. Its labeled AKC - (Italian Autos), but really its a listing for any kind of Italian styled automatic. I noticed this long ago when shopping for a few myself, I just learned to ignore the AKC label...
