Re: 1976 Buck 112

The brass on the new ones doesn't look as good as the older ones. I can't find anything wrong with their construction so there's that. A collector also told me the new ones don't have the quality of the older ones, (whatever that means) I know my 112 seems to weigh slightly more than the new ones. I...

Svord Peasant Knife

I lkike this folder so much I know own three. There isn't a lot to them but the blade stays incredibly sharp, and I don't know it's just a nice knife to own. There's a video on YouTube showing how they are made.

1976 Buck 112

Here's a pic of the 112 folder I bought way back in '76, it's seen a lot of use. Back in 2019 I took it to the NRA convention and showed it to the Buck reps at their booth. One of the Bucks signed it, (his name escapes me now) if you look hard you can see the autograph. Buck 112 folder.JPG This was ...

Re: Are there folks who want to learn more about leatherwork?

I am, especially what type of leathers work the best for small pouches and sheaths. I've been piddling around for quite a long time now making stuff in leather although it's pretty crude compared to some of the examples I've seen, still...I like the looks of a leather sheath over a nylon one any day.

Re: Are there folks who want to learn more about leatherwork?

I've never heard of lining sheaths but when you think about it it makes sense, I've had too many knives that began to corrode while being kept in a sheath.

Re: Are there folks who want to learn more about leatherwork?

Thanks for the reply, I had a hunch veg. tanned leather was the ticket. I can get decent sized scraps from a place called the leather guy for a pretty reasonable price. These are pieces perfect for making sheaths. One more question, any particiluar thickness?

Re: Anyone ever see one of these before?

The tool came with the serrations and yes that's a glass cutter.I've actually used this while camping, and it does a fair to middlein' job of chopping wood. Sharpening it is not easy. This came out well before the survival gear craze really began and quite franklyI'm surprised no one has come out wi...

Re: Are there folks who want to learn more about leatherwork?

Even though I've been making leather sheaths for my knives for quite sometime now I'm always interested in learning how to improve, especially what type of leather makes the best sheaths.

1940's Marble's

A collector roughly dated these two knives to the 40's. The first is an Ideal and the second looks a lot like a Girl Scout design but I wouldn't swear to it.

It's simply known as the SRT, my wife got it for me back in the late 70's. You can take a stick and push it into the hole then use the paracord to lash it to the stick. That little brass dealy-bob is a glass cutter.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?

Right now it's a Leatherman Skeltool and an Opinel number 6. I used to be a multitool junkie until I discovered the Skeltool. So far it's been the multitool I've carried the longest. As for the Opinel, I've really fallen in love with this brand and now own several.

Just an introduction from a long time knife collector. I've always collected knives on and off in one form or another. Nothing too fancy but all good quality blades. I own knives made by Colonial, Ontario, Marble's, Case, Boker, Imperial, Gerber, Camillus, Ka-Bar, Kershaw, Keen-Kutter, Schrade, Hell...

Re: Guttman G.C.C.

I too have a hunting style knife with G.C.C. stamped on it. I traced it to Gutman of Germany. Got it as a souvenier while visiting Rocky Mt. Nat. Park back in 1965. Aside from the sheath it's held up quite well over the years. It was a cheap knife back then but the blade appears to be carbon steel. ...
