Re: knife id

Hello Ferguson,
The model 170 Lightning HTA I was available in various colors. 420HC stainless steel blades and anodized hanldes. That model has been discontinued now for a few years.
Hope this helps.

Re: Production years for the 703?

Hello, I did some digging and found that the 703 was shown in Buck catalogs as "coming soon" from 1978-79. My records show that the first ones rolled off the line in December of 1979. Sadly, the Colt was last seen in Buck's 2001 catalog. So at least 86-2001 should be easy to locate. I have...

Re: Buck 112 question

The first nickle silver bolstered 112 that appears in a Buck catalog was made in 1987. It was supposed to be a commemorative knife celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 112 Ranger... 1963-1988 The funny part is that the 112 did not actually come out until 1972. We did not have a history guy back t...

Re: Winchester by Buck

Paladin, Thats one of the mystery 300 series projects that Buck did years ago. The only info I have on it is that there was also a 311 Trapper with the same logo shield. I am guessing that they were done in the 1970's. Do you happen to have the paperwork, the Use and Care leaflet might help narrow d...

Re: Buck 112 two dot

Hello Mike, I show 4 Variations of the 112 with that blade stamp. The only diferences between them have to do with the number of, and size of the inlay rivets. Unfortunately, The only way to narrow down the timeframe is with the original paperwork that came with the knife. If you still have that, we...

Re: A 112 three dot for scrutiny qnd dating

Moss, The timeframe on your 112 sounds close, might be a year or 2 earlier. I can say that you will be looking for close to 30 different 110's and about 13 model 112's to complete a set of both from their introductions to 1986. Contrary to popular belief, the 110 was introduced in 1964 and the 112 d...

Re: buck date chart

2002's mark was changed to an anvil to commemorate Buck's 100 year anniversary, and the 2005 mark was changed to an outline of the state of Idaho to commemorate our move north. I am not positive if there are "some" knives out there with the original marks for those 2 years, but it is possi...

Moss,
Buck Bros. is an entirely different company, not related to Buck Knives Inc. in any way.
We get their chisels and other wood working tools sent to our warranty department from time to time. Nothing we can do but send them back.

Re: Buck sportsman set 115 Value

You know Moss, I have seen them selling at prices that are all over the place. It certainly seems to depend on the age though. A one line set, if you can find one, will be worth a lot more than a 3 liner.
Sorry to be so vague.

Re: My Old Buck 110

Charlie, First, I echo the sentiment already expressed in regards to your sacrifice and service to our country! The knife looks to be in great condition and it is a somewhat harder version to find. It looks like a 3rd Version, Variation 5 or 6. 6 is somewhat hard to find and I have only actually see...

Re: What is the age of this old Buck Knife?

When you see the BUCK* stamp on one of the 100 series fixed bladed knives, it means about 1967. We "think" it is there to mark when Buck switched from forgings of 440c to blanks of 440c. FYI, the reddish colored handle spacers are bone hard fiber, a gasket material Buck used from 1963 to l...

Re: A 112 three dot for scrutiny qnd dating

Moss, Its been a while since I did the 112 data sheet and it probably needs to be updated. But the sheet says that your 112 is a Version 6, Variation 1. The very next Variation has the nail notch. It also lists a Version 7, with only 1 Variation, that is a 4 dot. It can be found with both hand radiu...

Re: Buck Jack knife before the 110 stamp?

I looked at the auction and would guess that it is a Second Version, Variation 1 or 2. It has the horizontal stamp but it is on the left hand side. First Versions are on the right. I am guessing that the rear "spacer" is made of bone hard fiber, aka gasket material. It sure looks to be in ...

I've come to a conclusion, based on my contact with customers for so many years. That conclusion is that I am sure glad we use many types of steels because one type wont make everybody happy. So many times I heard customers complain that they did not like their older 110 because it was too hard to s...

Re: How to ID......

In the early years Buck used old files and power hacksaw blades. This would be on knives from before 1961. If you see an old Buck with lucite, lignum vitae, elk, ebony or masonite, it was made from one of those 2 steels. (This assumes the knife is stamped BUCK only. There may be a dot or two by the ...

Re: How to ID......

The 110 was introduced in 1964 with 440C. Stampings found on a 440c 110 include: BUCK , BUCK* , BUCK, U.S.A. , BUCK, 110, U.S.A. , BUCK, *110*, U.S.A. and BUCK, *110**, U.S.A. We used that steel until 1981 when it was changed to 425mod. 110'S with 425mod will be stamped: BUCK, **110**, U.S.A. Also s...

Well this reply is a little late and probably wont add anything to the discussion but. The project was done in 1987 but there is very little info on it. I do not know how many were actually done which is very important in determining current value. My best guess, which is based on what other limited...

Re: Determining the date of a Buck knife

Thanks Hukk! Well I dont have the chart anywhere but can offer some help. Buck used old files of, I think, 1085? up until 1961. Then they switched to forged blades of 440c. In 1967 they switched to conventionally blanked 440c blades. In 1981 they switched to 425mod. In 1992 they switched to 420hc. B...
