I believe Jim used to be a guide and made knives.if it is the correct person when I started making knives ,I sent him knives to heat treat. They were made of 440C and he did a fabulous job on them. His heat treat oven was made by some of the scientists from NASA whom he took hunting around Ft. Stock...

Looks like an Indian Trader kit blade and guard with white tail handle. They had good steel and were very useful.

Our garden has been doing very well and I WAS JUST WAITING ON THE TOMATOES. Lost the first two dozen due to blossom :( rot - the whole bottom of the tomatoe was just jelly. First time I had ever seen it. Went to Feed store and bought spray and used it now looks like I will have the rest of the crop ...

You can also get different thicknesses of 52100 from Ray Kirk. He forges round stock down to approximate thickness then runs it through his rolling mill to get nice flat stock for you to work with. Raker Knives

Railroad spikes do not have enough carbon to hold a edge very long. Even the ones marked HC only have .3 carbon and you need at least.5 carbon to work right. They polish out nice and look good but would only do for letter openers.
