Re: Sawback Schliepper

Well, I was kinda hoping it was military but I didn't really think it was. I plan to put a nickle silver guard with a stag handle and then sell it. I'll try to remember to post finished pictures when I'm done. Thanks for all the info, guys! this is such a good place to mine some info from a wide ass...

Sawback Schliepper

I picked this nice old Eye Brand blade up at a knife show this morning. I'm not sure what the original knife looked like. Was it military? What kind of handle did it have. Blade measures 8 1/4" with an OAL of 13 1/4". Blade thickness is .210". Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Phil Tham Texas Knifemaker

I used to set up at the Buffalo (Texas) Gun Show across the aisle from Phil. I always loved looking at his stuff. but he hasn't been there for several years now. The show is going to be this coming weekend (Mar.6,7). I'll ask around, see if anybody knows anything. I loved looking at his knives, fina...

I had one that was hard to open and wouldn't lockup. a good flushing with WD-40 did the trick. then a good cleaing and relubed it with a quality oil.

These will be for a friends coke bottle that I am rebuilding for him. So nothing but the blade and frame are original. He wants it to look right.

Re: Who made this one?

Not real sure, but it kinda looks like an early Robbie Dalton knife. The only mark on some of his knives was a dog under a parachute with a sign on his side that said "FTW". In the backgroud were three jagged mountains. This etch was sometimes faint, so look carefully. He is still making s...

Re: DOC Knives

Not sure what the wood is, but it is a good looking piece of burl. The guy I got the knife from didn't know anything about the knife or the maker, but he said he was into it pretty deep. I traded him a new Voorhies subhilt for it. The taper on the tang almost comes to a knife edge.

Japanese Sushi Knife

I picked up this sushi knife last weekend. I'm not sure if it is trash or a treasure. It needs cleaning and sharpening and some TLC, but looks like it might be be a good'un. Blade is 9 1/2" with a 5 1/4" handle. The only markings are the Japanese writing in the picture. Can anyone help ide...

DOC Knives

This weekend, at the Tulsa gun show, I picked a beautiful camp knife made by DOC Knives. His logo has what looks to be a bear paw on it. It is a really well made piece, with a super thin blade taper. Burl handle scales, nickel silver bolsters and a nice leather sheath, with his logo on it. Blade is ...

Solingen Stag Hunter, who made it?

I picked up this nice little (8 1/4") Solingen, Germany stag hunter the other day. Beautiful stag, forged blade with original sheath. The blade is hard to read. What I can make out says "_R_CHKRON_ over "GERMANY". above the name appears to be a set of antlers, kinda elk lookin'. ...

The verdigris will also damage leather sheaths. It will eventually rot the leather around brass rivets and snaps.

Re: James Custom Knife

I bought these from a collector in Houston who is selling his stuff. I paid $225 each for these. He told me that James was a well known maker back in the day, which is kinda vague. Any way, they are very well made with strong snap and great lookin' bone scales!

Marble's Tang Stamp on a 1916 Pat'd. Woodcraft

I picked up this Woodcraft in a batch of knives I bought yesterday. It is stamped with the Pat'd. 1916 U.S.A. stamp, but the stamping on reverse has a right facing serif. I thought all the early knives (pre late 50's) had the left facing serif. Any ideas or information would be appreciated. SAM_4043...
