Re: Old Case Tested

I bet your reason for not having a 5111 1/2 10 dot is the same as mine. $$$$$$$$$$$

Re: Hazardous waste

I'm sure your right Wullie. They both came off my 10-dot, 32 knife counter display board. I've talked to Case about both. They said they would replace the handles, hopefully with the original pinned shields, and even send me new wire to put them back on the display. I just have to get around to doin...

Re: Hazardous waste

Here's a couple of 10-dot, 1970 yellows. The material was still bad in the dot era. The 3318 is quite a bit worse than the 3254, but material still hasn't attacked the bolsters or blades.

Re: does this look like delrin or bone ?

Agree with Sextonknifeworks. Delrin. Is it actually a 5-dot 1975? My book lists a 6318 in delrin for only one 1970 to 1979 dot year, 4-dot 1976. May be a left over 5-dot blade in 1976.

Upside Shield

OK Guys, this one looks pretty good to me except for the shield. Could this be a factory defect or has someone messed with it??

Re: Case Cutlery Question

Hey Aimus, I have been in contact with Case just lately asking the same question. I was told that starting with the late USAs and including 10-dots and later, Case used a plastic material for the smooth black and the yellow comp. They call it composition and say it does not have the gassing problem ...

Re: Case Tested XX 1932-1940

Did Case really put a nickel silver pin in the rear and a brass one up front. The tang looks a little thin. The tang and the stamp look too good and crisp. Is that a short "S" on the shield. Looks like a USA with a new tang stamp. "Pocket Knife Trader's Price Guide" lists a Case ...

Re: Knife Boxes

Hey Dale and Peter, I appreciate all of your interest, input and good suggestions. I am going to take the 3318 and the 3254 off the board and do some close looking at the fixed blades. I had heard about the effects of celluloid on the metal parts, but I thought the highly corrosive celluloid had sto...

Re: Knife Boxes

Hey Peter, Thanks for the interest. Actually the display is a counter display. The back opens up for storage.(see pics) I even got the keys. The top section, screwed on, has to be removed to slide the board and the glass out the top. I've done this one time, right after I got it, just to clean the g...

Re: Tested XX Jack?

You're not wrong, Paul. Something is wrong. It actually looks more like a 5214 1/2. This one looks too skinny to be a 35 pattern. The 3 3/8 also matckes the 14 pattern. The handles look damaged at the pins, so it's probably been apart. As you say, there's way too much ware on the blades. Way too sho...

Steve's right again! Where can I get a copy of your book? Or, you could give a copy to all AAPK members.

Both of mine are 2-Dot.

I agree with the rarity, too, Steve. I wish I would have known that when I was collecting only 10-Dots. That's when I passed them up.::dang::

Re: another rehandled peanut?

Steve, I'm certainly not a doubter of your knowledge of Case knives. "Pocket Knife Trader's Price Guide" by Parker and Henley does list a 9-Dot, 1971, bone handle 6220. Maybe they were "transition" knives. I have seen several, although it's a rare possibility they were rebladed. ...

Re: Case Tested XX Whittler

Hello Otto, What I think you have here is a Case pattern # 62087, jack knife, with rough black handles. Rough black is a jigged composition material used by Case before delrin. The jigging looks almost like worm groove and it is solid black. I believe Case XXs, 40-64, were the last to have it. Delri...

Re: another rehandled peanut?

Dan, I've seen the three 6220s on eBay you're talking about. The delrin and the appaloosa are good ones but the pearl is a rehandle and not even a good one at that. The pattern number is 6220, should be 9220 for an imitation pearl, it shouldn't have a delrin shield, and the handles don't even fit th...
