Re: Benchmade ads on Chicsmoo.com

I called Benchmade and asked about this. They told me that it was a fradulant web site and they have been fighting to have it taken down. Also said it looked like a very well made counterfit of the Benchmade site. They said if you did order a knife you might get a poorly made knock off or get nothin...

Re: Smith's MAB 8 Oil stone

Received a very nice reply from Smith's. M-is for Medium, A- is for Arkansas, B-is for Bench Stone and 8 is for eight inches long. The reply was from a very nice lady who said thats how they named their products in the past. Her name was Johnette Hardin. This will make me buy Smith's products when I...

Re: Moon Stone?

I bought a Case Moon Stone (definitely ceramic) in the late 1970's or early 1980's right out of a Case floor display. And I still use it. And I use the honing oil I bought with it which is light blue in color. I really like that stone for small to medium sized blades. This is just my opinion, but I...

Re: Moon Stone?

I bought a Case Moon Stone in the late 1960s. I'm not sure if it's still with some of my other stones or not. I remember it being about the same grit as a hard Arkansas stone but larger than the small hard Arkansas stones Case sold at the time. The small Case hard Arkansas stone I bought back then ...

Moon Stone?

Back in 1968 I purchased a stone that I remember was called a Moon Stone. I allso remember that it was a Case product. I still have it but the name that was on it is long gone. It is very hard with a very high grit. I still use it from time to time. Can anyone refresh my memory of this my oldest sha...

Re: Break in of new stone?

Congratulations on the new stone, Art. How big is it? I don't think any break in is required. Since it's new, now is a chance to determine weather you want to use oil or water on your new stone. I have used water for years but just thought I'd throw that out there. That's a very hard stone so I ass...

My wife drove me. I must have put it in those floppy pants pocket. Well, while cleaning my car today I noticed a shin...

Re: Chicago Cultery steel

I am only aware of the kitchen knives from the 1970's. We have a boneing knife from that time that was my father's in-law. I remember he had bought a whole set back then. I know today they are cheap imports.

I also have if I remember right a Case Moon Stone I purchased right after I got married in 1968. It is very hard and just 4 inches long and mounted on a ...

Re: Japaneese Water Stone

I have two knives made of S30V, two Tops made of 1095 carbon and a Benchmade made of M390. Also, two Schrade pocket knives made in New York.
I have no problem keeping them sharp but am always looking for something new.

Not good at that. It is just the normal Marine fighting knife. Instead or the leather wrap around the handel it is Kraton. Makes it second Generation I guess.

KA-Bar 1221 Second Gen Fighting Knife

Bought this knife 15 plus years ago and always wondered what kind of steel it was. Called Ka-Bar this A.M. and the nice lady put on hold to find out and came back with the info that it was Sandvik 12-c-27 steel. Kind of pleased with this. Not D-2 like their higher priced Fighting knives but not just...

K-Bar knife steel?

I purchased a K-Bar fighting knife at Sportman's Warehouse about 10 years ago and am trying to find out what kind of steel it has. The number on the blade is 1221. The reason I am asking is that I can't get the edge I normally get with my sharpening skill which is pretty good. So I am wondering if i...
