Square Not Working

Post by Jeffinn »

Hi Bryan,
I sent you a message but I don’t know if it got through.
I had a customer yesterday who tried to use the Square credit card payment and couldn’t get it to work. I also tried purchasing a knife from my store and it wouldn’t work for me either. I can put the knife in my cart, and fill in all of the credit card info, but when I click the button it just stalls and never completes. Did I miss something on the setup?
Thanks.
Jeff

Jeff,

Looks like there might be something wrong with the Square credentials AAPK has on file for you. I was able to purchase via square from a different seller, but yours is definitely hanging.

Could you try to update by doing the following...?

Access seller dashboard & click the "Edit Payments You Will Accept" link...
edit-payments.jpg
Then click the "Update Square Credentials" Button...
update-square.jpg
Square will ask you to login & you should receive a notice that your credentials were successfully updated. If not, you may get an error message.

If you get to this point, please report back any error or if successful & I'll proceed to test further from there & fix any problems that may still be present 8)

Unfortunately, there seems to be a lingering problem that I've yet to identify. I'll have to examine the situation closer & report back as soon as I get a better handle on what may be going on.

Hi Jeff,

So, it looks to me like there may be something missing or incomplete in the profile of your Square account that's required to accept payments from an online app...

According to Square's documentation, They require the following...
  • Business name. The name of the business as it is known by anyone who interacts with the business. Square prints the name on receipts, shares it with government tax agencies, reports it on credit card statements, and shows it on the Square Point of Sale application.
  • Location type. Whether the location is a fixed physical location (for example, a restaurant) or is a mobile location (for example, a food truck).
  • Phone number. A phone number that is optionally shared with customers.
  • Business address. The address of the business. For physical locations, it is the address that the business is located at. For mobile locations, it is the official address of the business used for legal purposes and to process payments.
Can you check that out & see if anything is missing? ...& If so, plug in the required info? ...& if not, let me know?

You can review and edit the location information on Square's seller dashboard:

Go to the seller dashboard ( https://squareup.com/dashboard/).

Choose Accounts & Settings from the left pane.

On the Accounts & Settings page, from the Business dropdown on the left navigation choose Locations.

Thanks ::tu::

Thanks Bryan. There were a few items missing (phone number, business hours etc.) so I filled them in. Let me know if you need anything else.

For some reason, Square is not showing credit card processing as a capability for you, which I thought may have been caused by missing info outlined above... Unfortunately, nothing has changed since you added some data.

Has this account been successfully used in the past to collect payments on AAPK or anywhere?

I'm wondering if card processing has been activated on your Square account. Is there anything on your dashboard that reads something like "Activate card processing"?

I used it to test out a BigCommerce website that I was playing around with and it accepted my purchase and sent out all of the notifications and logged my purchase into their statement. The transaction showed up in my bank account as expected.
It’s not a big deal, it’s a nice additional payment option for customers who don’t use PayPal but I haven’t had a lot of folks using it so maybe it’s not all that necessary.
I’ll just deactivate it as a payment option and go back to PayPal and checks or money orders for my payment options.
Thanks for all of your time and effort a Bryan!
(I just deactivated Square here and at the Square website)

Hi Jeff,

If you change your mind & want to try Square again at some point, let me know. I'd be glad to dig into this deeper for you. It really looks to me like there was just something that needed to be adjusted or updated in your Square account ...

Best,
Bryan
