Gen. Custer's Favorite
Gen. Custer's Favorite
I received this Gen. Custer's Favorite coke bottle a couple days ago.
When I opened it I was excited. What a great looking knife. The packaging was really cool (old school box, embroidered carry bag, etc.)
Beautiful heavy duty coke bottle.
Now the bad....extremely dull. I could run my finger across the edge without fear of being cut. The bevel was so bad I had to reprofile it. It took quite awhile to finally get a good edge. Now that it's sharp I love it. Gonna put it in a belt sheath and put this beauty to work.

That’s a beautiful knife.

Thanks.
I should have put in my original post that this is a new M&G made by GEC in case someone doesn't know.
Edit:
Russell thankfully corrected me. This knife was made by Queen.

The coke bottle range of M&G are made by Queen Cutlery David. Only their newer models are made by GEC. I have one of these coke bottles as well, nice large knife.

It does happen, when most knife companies were making knives for each other it became hard sometimes to identify which company actually made the knives. I have been been perplexed sometimes when trying to find out who actually put together a certain knife.

I've got one that I like quite a bit.
I like to think of them as hunters.

Rusty 1, thanks for the info.
FRJ, your Custer has two blades and a bail, mine just one. So is yours an older Queen or a newer GEC pattern?

Try to help where possible. The single blade hunters were made after the two blade models, they bone bone and Ebony and I think the single blade ones were just made in bone. All three were Queen made.Quick Steel wrote:Rusty 1, thanks for the info.

I'm away from my knives right now. It's been awhile since I bought that knife. I didn't think of it as Queen made.
Maybe Roger (peanut740) can help us although I certainly honor Russells judgment.

Russell is correct. All the folding hunters were made by Queen. The 2 blade one's came in Ebony and bone and had bails, and the single blade were only in bone and no bails. All the others are GEC made.

These Queen made Maher & Grosh "Custer's Favorite" is really nice. I Bought some old Bokers and S&M Knives at a better price. When I tride to buy one , they were gone. I just emailed Maher & Grosh . I think Maher & Grosh blew it with the #97 Allegheny knives. Mayer & Grosh should of made a new "Custer's Favorite" with the better GEC #97 Allegheny Coke Bottle knife.
