Dave Shirley Marbles

Webster Marble formed Gladstone Mfg. Co. in 1892. That company created the first folding Axe in 1893 which lead to the incorporation of Marble's Safety Axe Co. in 1898. The company became Marble Arms & Mfg. Co. in 1911 & enjoyed years of success until succumbing to a shut down of production in 1974. The brand was brought back to life in 1994 & enjoyed a grand rejuvenation that later gave way to another shutdown in 2009. Many great knives & tools were crafted over the company's storied history.

Oh Gary, you know I love them. I’m not a fixed blade collector but I do like that muskrat you have there.

MARBLES-TRAVEL-TRIO.jpg
The pinned one looks like a 7 inch Trailmaker with the sheath
for a 10 inch Trailmaker...
heck of a knife...52/100 steel and built like a tank
I have one but mine has the Stag pommel
Not to many of them floating around
This is my travel trio of fixed blade knives

In late 2005 they added the USA under the banner stamp that
they used from 2002-2005-6...they used that 2005 stamp until
they went out of business in 2008-9

Just got this Marbles whittler from 2001. Fiery pearl handles. Pristine condition, not a single scratch of blade rub.

This is just my thoughts on you Prototype most of the time they do about 2 but have seen as many as 10 .
Not sure that your knife was a Marbles original prototype looks like it may have been rehandled most Prototypes would not mark through the original name on the box and put Stone unless it had a different handle to start with . Still a nice knife just don't recall it in any of the Marble Sales Catalog ::handshake::

I agree any of the Davy Shirley Marbles are a rare find these days . They were all limited number. I haven't seen any more than 450 of each Pattern and that was split up into different handle material which is a low Number for knives. ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::
