Travel stones or pocket sharpener?

Post by Froe »

I like to keep a shaving edge on my pocket knife, even when on vacation or when traveling. And since my next trip is on the motorcycle, I'd like to travel with a light, simple but effective stone or pocket sharpener. I was thinking about ordering a Fallkniven DC4 or CC4 stone or maybe a red 4" DMT. You guys have any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Froe

I have a mini sharpening steel that screws in and out of it's pen size plastic cover. It keeps a fine edge on my pocket knives, is small and light and I like it better than a stone for maintaining an edge. The only problem is I have had it for forty years or so and don't remember where I got it from.

Sharpening supplies has a Lanksy pocket tactical sharpening rod similar looking to yours for $20. They also have many other pocket/portable sharpening stones and folding diamond sharpeners. ::tu:: And no i'm not on commission.   ::mdm::

I don't think you'll regret buying that 4" DMT. Fine Grit. ::nod::

This isn’t the exact one, but I keep one of these in my backpack that I carry to work. It’s a diamond home on one side and ceramic on the other. I use it all the time.

I went with the DMT Diafold with the fine and extra fine stones. I'll probably remove the handle though.
