Made In Japan - But Made By ??

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

I started this new topic or thread because I do NOT know the maker of these two pocket knives.
Therefore, I couldn't do a search to see if there was already a topic or thread for them.
This one, the other one is in the next post, arrived very recently in a group of pocket knives that I bought. This particular pocket knife was NOT the target of my purchase. It is an UNKNOWN, two blades, 2 5/8" closed, three tang stamps, pocket knife. Except for the missing shield, It is in EXCELLENT condition. It needed no cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

It is an UNKNOWN, two blades, 2 7/8" closed, three tang stamps, pocket knife. Except for the missing shield and a tiny gouge above the secondary blade nail nick, it is in VERY GOOD condition. I don't know who they are actually made by, but these are both Sharp; a house-brand used by Kmart from the '70s-90s.

Yep I'll second that, the missing shield would have said "SHARP" .

Cody6268 and ea42 are right - they were marketed under the Sharp name, and sold by Kmart. They are good little knives, but it looks like they bought the glue for their shields from Boker! ::rotflol::
I made a shield for my 270 Peanut.

If you decide to sell or trade those two, let me know sometime.

Skip, it’s impossible to figure out who made a lot of those older Japanese made knives. Master Seizo Imai is your most likely maker. He made a lot of knives under a lot of brands and made a fair amount without branding on them.
You might try seeing if Jacob at Eprague could help out. He knows more about these Japanese made knives than just about anyone I know.

This pocket knife arrived recently in a very large group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. I did NOT buy the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. But, as it turned out, it is a keeper. It now becomes the latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It is also the latest addition to my general pocket knife collection. It is an "UNBRANDED", one blade, one tang stamp, 3 3/8" closed, fish themed, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says "VANADIUM (over) STAINLESS JAPAN" The main handle side has a nice graphic of a fish jumping out of the water for its meal. Overall, it is in EXCELLENT condition. It did not need any cleaning. I just wiped it off, took some pictures and here it is. This is NOT the same pocket knife and these are NOT the same pictures that were posted in the "Taiwan Pocket Knives" topic or thread. Both pocket knives are identical, EXCEPT for the tang stamp(s).

Skip! I'm totally confused, although this probably happened long ago, but, I cannot see ANY differences in this knife you posted, and the knife in your "Taiwan pocket knives" post, yet you claim they're not the same, am I just being dense or would you kindly explain what you meant? ::shrug:: Thx! ::handshake:: 8)

I meant that it has a different tang stamp.
Not that there were any differences in the actual knives.

This money clip and or lobster style of pocket knife arrived recently in a very large group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. This particular pocket knife was NOT the target of my purchase. However, it did turn out to be a keeper and it will make a welcome addition to my general, foreign born, pocket knife collection. It is a JAPAN, one blade, one tool (a file), 1 1/8" X 2" closed, one tang stamp, money clip and or lobster style of pocket knife. It may have had an advertising insert at some time in its history, but it definitely doesn't now. The main blade front tang stamp says "STAINLESS (over) STEEL (over) JAPAN" The main blade has a weak half stop and a soft opening and closing snap. The tool also has a weak half stop and a soft opening and closing snap. Overall, it is in GOOD condition. It did NOT need any cleaning. I just wiped it off, took some pictures and here it is.

I like that one. It reminds me of some similarly decorated Bucks (I think) that caught my eye when I was younger.

Hopefully Skip won't mind me posting this one here. It's a little "tuxedo" pen, about three inches long. Both blades appear to be pens. The only marking anywhere on it is "Stain Less Japan." I suspect the three lines are due to the blades being so slender. I also suspect that it was made to capitalize on tourism and/or an export boom. Not much value here, yet I've been curious about its origins since I've had it.

I don't mind anyone posting their general "JAPAN"
stamped or marked cutlery. That is why I started
this topic. That is a very NICE l@@king pen knife.

Recently, this advertising, key ring, lobster style of pocket knife, arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. This particular pocket knife was NOT the object of my purchase. It is a JAPAN, one blade, one tool (a cap lifter or bottle opener), 1" X 1 1/2" closed (not including the loop or ring), one tang stamp, advertising, key ring, lobster style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says "JAPAN (over) STAINLESS" The main blade has a soft opening and closing snap. The tool also has a soft opening and closing snap. The handle says "KOSHER - Empire - POULTRY" and has the letter "U" in a circle, symbol. The letter “U” in a circle, on a food label or package, means that the food is kosher and was processed according to the jew dietary laws. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did NOT need any cleaning.
I just wiped it off, took some pictures and here it is.
