Look who followed me home!

Post by zoogirl »

I got this big old girl at the Vancouver Flea Market/Red Barn. The vendor has sold me many knives and a few other items. He had $250 on her, but as soon as I asked to check her out, he said “ That’s for the hagglers. $150 for you!”
We found her date stamp and she’s a Harmony, Spring of 1961. Just a year younger than me!
This is the only pic so far. My bro Paul took it in the Flea Market cafe.
I love old Harmonies like I love old Richards and Pals. Yep, I’m happy! ::ds::

I know nothing about guitars, but that is a fine looking one.

$150 for a guitar that 'works', strings hold their tension, etc. sounds like a very good deal to me.
Great score Ann. If you make a video of you playing it please post a link.

I know nothing about guitars Ann, other than wishing I'd learned how to play, but if you say it's a good one that's good enough for me! Glad you're happy! Enjoy! 8)

Lucky You! Nice one. I love old archtops. Friend has a 1930's CROMWELL, store brand made by Gibson. Its a killer! Here's an old Western Auto Stores, TRUETONE. It's funny looking but it sounds great. Probably made by KAY in Chicago. Great woods, especially the top. Saw a 1957 Western Auto catalog that says, "Our Best Western Guitar", $49.95.. It's far superior to the Asian stuff sold today. Enjoy your Harmony. J.O'.

She had on steel, but despite the headstock, she doesn’t seem to have a rod. The neck seems fine though. I’ll keep a real light gauge on.
Ridgegrass, you’re making me drool!
Thanks for all the kind words!

Very nice Ann. Haven’t seen you posting much lately, been missing your wit and humor. Glad to see you posting. That does look like a very nice guitar.

Here she is with her “little sister”.
I got the tenor at the Binners Swap years ago. Me and another girl spotted her at the same time, and she was a touch faster.
She’s one of the vendors and about six months later, she nabbed me as I was passing her table and asked if I still wanted the guitar. She was asking what she’d paid - $25!
It was destiny!
Anyway, they only made them in this model from 1950-1970.

Zoogirl. The old Kays and Stellas and Harmony's had rods inlaid under the fingerboards. They weren't adjustable just reinforced. Old Martins have the same thing.
Don't wanna show off but if you really wanna drool, here's a 1933 Gibson L-OO, best little blues box ever made, and a 1960 Gibson L-50 acoustic archtop. I'm not a collector per se, just been playing for 50 years and have amassed a bunch of guitars along the way. I've had them for years and they still make me drool! Hope you like them. What's your music style? J.O'.

I love all my babies. lucky to have them. Stay tuned, I'll show you another one someday.
